Good afternoon SMD 5D03, ANC 5D and Ward 5 community,
I'm writing with a quick reminder of tomorrow morning's opportunity to help several members of our community get back on their feet after last week's apartment fire in SMD 5D03. If you are able to help these 3 families in need, donations of new and gently-used clothing, blankets, cookware and canned goods are being accepted tomorrow, Saturday, April 4th from 8am - 11am at 1832 L Street NE. If donating clothing, girls' clothing size 7-8 and shoe size 2 are of most use at this time. Please note that financial donations are not being accepted tomorrow morning. Should you wish to make a financial donation, please contact me individually and I will be happy to share your contact information with the fire victims, who have requested that their name and contact information not be shared broadly. To the many individuals, churches and community organizations who have already reached out to me, the victims and/or the DC Government agencies with whom we have been working with this week - thank you for your support and generosity - it is making an incredible difference in the victims' time of need.
With gratitude,
Adam

If donating clothing, please keep in mind that 3 children as well as several adult males and females were affected, therefore almost any clothing in good condition will be helpful. You can drop off donations at 1832 L Street NE today and next Saturday. To make alternate arrangements, feel free to contact me directly via email or phone; both are in my signature below.Thank you in advance for your generosity.AdamSMD 5D03, ANC 5D and Ward 5 family,Early this morning, a fire broke out on the top floor of an apartment building in single member district 5D03. I have been in communication with our liaisons from Mayor Bowser's office throughout the day, and just returned from a conversation with residents of the building and the Red Cross. The top-floor unit sustained extensive fire and smoke damage, and is likely a total loss. The two units below it sustained water damage in the process of putting out the fire. Residents of all three units are currently unable to stay in their homes, and the Red Cross is arranging hotel rooms for them for the next three days. One resident and one firefighter were transported to the hospital this morning. While DC Fire continues to investigate the cause, I am syncing with our Mayor's office liaisons - Tommie and Malik - to ensure that everything possible is being done to help the affected residents get back on their feet quickly, including: finding alternative housing, engaging the Office of the Tenant Advocate, and following-up with the landlord and property manager. In the mean time, you can help by donating clothing, blankets, toiletries, etc. I will be organizing a donation drop-off for later this weekend, and will share the location, time and day as soon as details have been confirmed.Thank you to DC Fire, MPD, Commander Porter, Mayor Bowser, Tommie and Malik for your respective work throughout the day today. With gratitude,Adam--Adam RobertsANC 5D03__._,_.___
