Hello,Net fishing is illegal in DC, VA and MD. USPP has increase patrols near 41st and Glebe, Chain Bridge and Locks 5 & 6 over the past few weeks. We are now concentrating on entering the Potomac to include pre search and rescue contacts. If you continue to observe net fishing, let me know of the area and I will direct officers to make contacts. Thanks for the info,JerryLieutenant Jerry Marshall

Comments: | The following came as an email from a fellow paddler: "Yesterday evening I was paddling in the area around the bottom of little falls and was extremely unhappy to see all the trash on the banks of the river. In addition to having litter on the ground and rocks there was a lot of debris floating in the water including plastic bottles, Styrofoam bait containers, beer cans etc. Todd pointed out that netting fish is illegal and several groups were using this technique. Is there anything we can do to help prevent this mess? Does anyone have a contact at the park service that we can call or write to?" |
