Hey guys, the water is getting warm and we're meeting up tomorrow at Violet's Lock at 11:30 for my
favorite event series of the summer. GW Loop Picnic Paddles!
Most of you know the score but for those that do not, the GW Loop is a
scenic class ii run with rope swings, a potluck picnic lunch, and an
aptly named Jacuzzi Rapid for some summer soaking. It is also an
excellent opportunity to invite friends and family who have not
experienced kayaking before. Comfort in the water is a must for safety's
sake and please contact me before inviting non-boaters. I do have a
limited stock of extra gear and boats.
Where: Violet's Lock at the west end of River Road
When: Saturday, June 8, 11:30
What to bring: Completely optional but appreciated by all... A bottle of
wine/beverage of choice, chunk o' cheese, crusty bread, fruit, cookies.
Really anything that fits in a lap or stern and sounds tasty. Donuts,
fried chicken and whole watermelons have even made appearances in the
past. Bring dry bags if you have them but there are always plenty
available.
Duration: The run itself is only around an hour long at best. After the
swinging, revelry, and jacuzzi, 4 hours or more is not uncommon. People
can also leave early. The takeout to head back up the canal is not
difficult to find.
