[WardFive] Thoughts about McMillan

Good Evening Ward 5,

So after tonight's email regarding utilizing McMillan as a storm water storage site to ease the flooding in Bloomingdale, I had some questions and thoughts;

1.   How long has this idea really been tossed around?
2.   Has this idea been suggested to our "leaders" as a solution prior to me putting it forth and if so, was it turned down because they would rather develop McMillan?
3.   Do we have any way of knowing this?  Is there a paper trail to identify whether this is true?
4.   If this site was suggested prior, is the City and the officials Liable for the Flooding in Bloomingdale for not acting on it?
5.   If this site was never suggested, Why -- it was such a simple fix to a horrific problem for a long time?
6.   Was this type of heavy stress on our sewer system identified and did the City ignore it in order to push development?
7.   Is this type of flawed planning and poor decision making going to affect us in other ways around the city and with other implementations?
8.   Does OP and Deputy Mayor's office know anything about any other issues that could arise that we don't know abou?
9.   How does this infrastructure lessen the costs on the Developer who stands to gain for developing McMillan?
10  If this is the case, does the City get any cost savings back from the Developer being provided by this sudden infrastructure work?
11. What really pushed this sudden/quick decision to do all that is being put forth to solve the Flooding?

The reason I ask this is that it seems like the culture of "politics" is causing too much stress in our communities and affecting everything - and in about 40 days, a decision to close our schools is going to be made and we don't have the proper analysis done -- Analysis that any other CEO would be asking his WORKER to do before closing any plants, affecting any workers, affecting their families and most important of all, how does this decision affect the CUSTOMER -- our children.

Today I suggested yet another great idea (A "Water Tax") to help keep our Schools open and Last Week, I sent out a list of things that should be done prior to Closing any School -- something I am sure others have thought about as well.  When does the Charade and Madness of "Community Input" stop -- because we realize that we don't have an input??   When can we start living a life where we don't have to do "Research" to have our "leaders" treat us with the most Basic of all their DUTIES -- RESPECT!!   \

So, if this McMillian decision is based on my suggestion from months ago, then the question is How did this Common Sense Idea slip by all of all those City Planners and All of the engineers of WASA and All of the Developers. Could it be possible that some basic Common Sense ideas are slipping by all the Professionals in DCPS?
