[WardFive] Re: [ward5] Re: Nominations for officers for June election

Really!!

Not that I condone any wrong doing by Silas or anyone else but Please allow me assist with the thought process on this.

Debbie -- like you said, "While Silas has grown as a person".  In my opinion of watching Silas Grant GROW over the years, including from the Harry Thomas flawed grant awarding process (whether he signed the document or not), he has done exactly that -- grow.  That's how winners in life are formed -- we make mistakes and we learn from them -- it doesn't make Silas a "leper" for life and lending his "grown" volunteer service in a this Volunteer Organization is not a bad continuation.  What Debbie has done is exactly what most of the folks done here in any election process -- instead of accentuate their strengths, folks tend to want to remind everyone of others mistakes or at least try to cast shadows.

Personally, I don't have a gain in this but, like I stated earlier, Silas is an awesome young man.  Those mistakes that he made a few years back should have cleared up the few spider webs that BAD "LEADERSHIP" here in Ward 5 and many places throughout the world very easily develops.  Like I said a few years ago when Robert Brannum ran against Angel Alston for that same position -- I stated that "leaders" are failing one of the most major DUTIES in the job of leadership -- failing to teach young leaders how to become stronger and when young folks step forward to take on leadership roles, there is not much support, only criticism and a whole lot of folks trying to guide them down the wrong path.

Back to Silas -- this would be a great opportunity for him to show what he is actually made of and what he learned from those few mistakes he has made in life -- especially those recent ones -- similar to the ones that most everyone has made.

I believe that someone in this community said -- "Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life, as by the obstacles which one has overcome while trying to succeed" --- Booker T. Washington

Understand that BAD INFLUENCE and LACK OF POSITIVE LEADERSHIP TRAINING is also an obstacle that one has to overcome -- and usually one is actually wrongly influenced in order to have fully learned the lesson.  Silas was influenced and as a young man coming into this very muddy political game, he was just as vulnerable as everyone else. I believe that he has grown enough to be given the opportunity to serve his community again.  As I see it, this young man is stepping up to take on some responsibility and the over experienced "leaders" should be ready to be supportive of whoever wins.

As for SLATES -- it seems to me that almost all who I have experience here in Politics seems to be on some "Slate" or another.

Just speaking from a very experience place of making many mistakes and bad judgements in life!!

First off it wouldn't be slander but lible and secondly he would have a case.

First you stated something to attack him without knowing or caring to find out. Second you have published it (this is the definition given by the federal court by distributing it via email) third he would have grounds for an action. I'm not going to drag down the list serve with the det of defamation and is what is needed to prove it. Know howev that based on the facta that a summary judgment would be easy to obtain.

Further as it relates to the attack on Mr. Grant your statement is filled with false statements. There is no actual proof that he signed for the alleged funds which were part of a larger crime by HTJ. Again the details are out so I wouldn't waste everyone's time.

Lastly as it relates to you not being part of anything negative,  your emails all prove otherwise.

Let's you and I be clear Mr. Jordan; as I stated before: No one from the CM's office should be serving on this body. I am entitled to my opinion.

The last time I checked, the email I wrote was about the prior ANC 5C and their antics, which you were not involved in ANC 5C, the community and you don't live their either.

Further, if you are a CPA then say so, otherwise ... You don't scare me nor will I be quite.  And what is slanderous?, exposing the truth..   And from where I sit, if anything I have said is untrue or slanderous, file a lawsuit against me, otherwise....

Yes, I am part of a slate who is about positive change and holding people accountable.  Only after I seen the shenanigans that played out with Bob King nominating an entire slate from the floor that included CM MCDuffie's office personnel, did I then decide to self nominate for the 3rd Vice President seat; and guess what.. It is legal an in the rules.

I stand up and applaud these facts: you brought a home in Ward 5, work for the CM, an ANC Commissioner, work for CM McDuffie, and attended meetings, whoopee.

I make a personal choice to boycott organized meetings that are not in alignment with the rules and policies that are written, SO SHOOT ME. So shoot me, for having real morals and a true ethical character.  If I can remove a veil and provide additional information to people about what they may not know, then I will.

The mean spirited way that the Ward 5 Dems pushed Angel Alston out of her seat was deplorable.  The Executive board under Alston's leadership did not work with her. Further, the manner in which the prior elections happen was a total disgrace to the Ward.

However,  this time around there were ethical people on the nomination  committee;  heading up the election process.  Once I heard about it,  I thought I would start participating again.  However, when I saw Bob King nominating, from the floor, the CM's employees, woo boy did that bring back memories.  So it did not take long for me to figure out what was going on.  So that's the only reason why I SELF nominated myself young man.

Yes, we need new leadership! Did I say that you were not new?  I identified you on the CM's slate and not being a CPA.   Where is the slander is saying you are not a CPA, Certified Public Accountant, just in case you might misunderstand the acronym I am using.  When you sue me I want the wording to be clear and concise.

I state my case, you can do the same.  Remember, on and off the listserve you represent the CM's office.  Be careful of what you write.  Now what about that lawsuit of libel? Telling the truth and how it is, is not one of my weaknesses.

AND let's be sure we are clear; everything I wrote, can be verified; either through news articles, the DC Auditor office and the prior ANC minutes.  Too include, you can check with the new ANC 5C about being insolvent.

I typically practice restraint with regards to responding to listserv post. However, your post is absurd, misleading, and disingenuous and against better judgment I will engage you. You fail to mention that you are also a candidate and more than likely have aligned yourself with a group of people also running for positions (based on visual perception of the events at the meeting). You also attack others for things like attendance, experience, public trust, etc. All without saying how many meetings you have attended of the Ward 5 Democrats and your own ANC 5E.

I would appreciate if you would leave me out of your propaganda post in the future or if you have questions concerning me that you reach out and contact me. I have a degree in Finance, have worked for the largest credit union in the world (Navy Federal) and had a career as a consultant prior to joining the District government specializing in Budget Formulation and Execution for clients such as DoD, DHS, VA and DoT. I have managed budgets ranging in the billions and maintained a Secret clearance will employed as consultant for the government.

Furthermore I have been involved with the Ward 5 Dems since moving back to the District of Columbia after purchasing my first home in Ward 5, and you can request to see the sign in sheets (which I have signed many). I also was elected to serve as an ANC commissioner in ANC 5A in which I have not missed a meeting and have aimed to provide quality service to all of my constituents. So instead of signing off with a message for those to wake up, lets try to be positive leaders and change agents for Ward 5 and the District of Columbia. This kind of slander and bickering is the exact reason why attendance is slim at many of our community meetings (civic, dems, ANC, etc). People want effective government and representation, not high school antics.

> Dear Ward et, al As someone who has been directly affected by Silas Grant and his lack of leadership as an ANC Commissioner, I whole heartily disagree. While Silas has grown as a person, his recent and prior leadership as an ANC Commissioner has left this current SMD 5E01 Community disappointed. Silas Grant is still under a cloud of unethical activity as it relates to his so call non profit that received money from the Children Youth Investment Trust. Currently CYITC is still going over the books relating to how several non profits were given money under HTJ direction with no actually legal documents forming non profit's --Silas Grant's prior non profit of which he was affiliated, is one who received funds and had lacked the legal documentation. And no accounting has been provided by Silas Grant for the more than $30,000 that his organization received that I am aware. Silas Grant and his Organization was written up in a Washington Post article identifying his lack of paperwork and accounting. If he has corrected this issue I would like Silas Grant to provide it to this listserve. Silas Grant, as the SMD Commissioner of the prior 5C09, did not attend quite a few of his ANC Commission meetings his last year in office, '12. He allowed the prior Councilmember, HTJ to railroad a development process into our community; from which the community had no real input before the train left the station. The housing development has houses directly facing end housing of existing homes which are only 25 feet away from each other.
>
> In addition, the ANC 5C leadership before redistricting, of which Silas Grant, Thomas Bradley, Tim Clark and others were a part of, did not do their do diligence regarding, maintaining financial oversight of the money which was allotted to ANC 5C. Only GiGi Ransom spoke up and out about the financial mess of that prior ANC 5C. In fact, the other sitting Commissioner's at that time, with Ronnie Edwards as Chair, allowed then, Commissioner Tim Clark, who was the Grants Committee Chair to push through improper grants which has been one of the main causes of the CURRENT ANC 5C to be insolvent. Further, these past Commissioners of ANC 5C failed to provide the auditor timely financial reports for an entire year. It was only until the DC Auditor's audit of the prior ANC 5C finances did the 5C Commission create the reports that were required and needed more than a year or two before. This was the only way this prior ANC 5C came into reporting compliance with the DC auditor. However because of the auditor's findings, it has caused financial hardship on the current ANC 5C. The current ANC 5C has not been able to get the prior ANC 5C Chair, Ronnie Edwards, who is running for First Vice for the Ward 5 Democrats, to write a letter to the AG and others to assist with clearing up the financial mess he and the prior ANC 5C left behind.
> So where is this great leadership? The current ANC 5C which has new leadership, had nothing to do with the prior ANC 5C's financial mess. They are now going through a process in trying to resolve those financial issues that has preventing them from getting any allotments from the DC Auditor; and now, we have some of the same people who cause this financial mess running for higher office. When the ANC Commissioners were in office, that lack the responsibility for representing their respective communities, by doing right. So how do you then justify or consider placing them in a higher office?
>
> Ward 5, the Ward 5 Democrats need to be separate and a part form the Councilmember's office. CM McDuffie's slate is Chair -Silas Grant; First-Vice - Ronnie Edwards; Second-Vice; Sandi Washington; Third-Vice; Jon Mandel (who just registered as a Democrat this past April); Treasurer: Adrian Jordan (who has no accounting background and is not a certified CPA); Financial Secretary - Jamal Thrower ( a part of HTJ prior regime); so what do you want for true leadership for your Ward?
>
> We, as a Ward, should want a better governance body of leadership instead of supporting friends. Isn't that what got us in trouble with HTJ? And where is he now? New leadership with new ideas to move our ward forward should be the direction we would want to go.

I will say that some individual do not get around like they try to present them self but those how are running for the "Chair" like Andrew Rodger has been attending meeting of the ward 5 Dems for a long time and who I fully support to take our community of Democratic leaders to a new level that many individuals can not and plus bring back respect to our ward 5 dems. One of the most influential African American ward's of DC we have to get in front of the 8 ball for our community/children/seniors and those individuals less forgotten. Mr. Andrew Rodger will surely take us their and beyond. So vote for him on June 24th starting at 6pm at Michigan Park Christian Church.

I'd like to keep the top spot with some continuity and passion and with a proven leader. But I guess I need to look at the remaining three candidates for chair since Brannum is not running now. I don't know all the candidates well and expect to see campaign literature circulating.
