DPW Observes Independence Day, Thursday, July 4
*Sanitation services will be suspended.
*Parking regulations will be enforced in the Nationals Stadium neighborhood.
*All services resume Fri., July 5.
The Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced how services will be affected Thursday, July 4, 2013, when the District observes Independence Day. Trash and recycling collections and street and alley cleaning will be suspended. Parking enforcement will be suspended, except in the Nationals Stadium neighborhood where all parking regulations will be enforced. All services will resume Friday, July 5.
Trash/recycling collections: Thursday and Friday trash and recycling collections will “slide” to the next day. Thursday’s collections will be made Friday and Friday’s collections will be made Saturday.
Parking Enforcement: All parking regulations will be enforced in the Nationals Stadium neighborhood. Elsewhere, DPW will suspend enforcement of expired meters, residential parking and rush hour lane restrictions. Also, booting, towing and abandoned vehicle removal will be suspended. Enforcement resumes Friday, July 5.
Ft. Totten: The Ft. Totten Transfer Station, located at 4900 John F. McCormack Drive, NE, will be closed. Residents may resume bringing bulk trash and recyclables on Friday, July 5 between 1 pm and
5 pm.
The next Saturday household hazardous waste/e-cycling/document shredding drop-off day is July 6, 8 am to 3 pm, (these services are available every first Saturday of the month, except holidays). To accommodate residents whose religious beliefs prohibit them from using the Saturday drop-off, DPW will accept household hazardous waste and e-cyclables only on Wednesday, July 3 from 1 pm to 5 pm. (DPW usually provides this alternate drop-off day the Thursday before the first Saturday of the month, but because of the July 4th holiday, these services will be provided July 3.) DPW will not accept personal documents for shredding on Wednesday, July 3 as there is no way to secure these items until the contractor arrives on Saturday.
Directions to Ft. Totten: Travel east on Irving Street, NW, turn left on Michigan Avenue, turn left on John F. McCormack Drive, NE and continue to the end of the street. For directions from additional locations, please click on http://dpw.dc.gov/node/414922.
