As of Feb. 2013, there are 54,392 registered Democratic voters in Ward 5, the highest in the city. Ward 5 has grown tremendously in economic development which is reflected in its diverse population growth, of which many of these new residents have experience and involvement in political party involvement from where they came. From these experiences, the new residents and those residents already living in Ward 5, understand how the Ward 5 Democrats operated, represented and served the residents of our Ward in the past, which as for DC, was appropriate for the times.
However, here we are, more than a decade into the new century, with rapid changes in citywide politics, economics and life, it has been heard that a higher level of effective Ward party leadership without strings attached and a willingness to enhance local level empowerment from their party leadership is strongly desired if Ward 5 is to be lifted up together to the level of respect it deserves once again.
I served on ANC 5C with Silas Grant for two (2) terms. I like Silas. Silas has shown the potential to be an effective leader in the future. However, being handed the position without preparation for such a high level, visible and accountable position should be properly achieved by paying dues from experience gained working from the ground up in the political party system, not being hand selected to run just because.
However, in comparing both Mr. Grant's and Mr. Rogers' bio, Mr. Andrew Rogers' strong 10 years experience in the Democratic Party system on the local, state and national levels; his success in party leadership positions; and the fact that he is a lawyer, and also a veteran has great value, along with attending all the W5 Dems meeting this past year and through this year. This says a lot about Andrew's character, Andrew's organizing skills and the real direction the W5 Dems will be going with Andrew's knowledge and experiences, in local, state and national level party politics which when shared with and embraced W5 Dems, can fulfill the long sort desire to have the same success achieved here in Ward 5.
Andrew's experiences in successful party organizing, and the goals Andrew has achieved on various party levels has served well for all. With and under Andrew's leadership, the same can be accomplished here in Ward 5.
Ward 5 Democrats are in need of this type of a higher, expansive vision and leadership focused on a Ward 5 wide service and empowerment, along with having the ability to freely agree and disagree with our elected Councilmember for it will be the people who freely elected Andrew. After what our Ward has been through, the healing can truly and fully began with the election of Andrew Rogers.
This is why Andrew Rogers is my chose for Chairperson of the Ward 5 Democrats, being restored to the shining light and influential Ward of the party! I encourage you to make Andrew Rogers your choice also for a better, empowering Ward 5 Democratic Party! Also according to the Ward 5 Dems updated bylaws-a woman must be elected 1st Vice Chair for balanced representation of party officers. Please share!
