[WardFive] Re: [ward5] Who will be mayor? Who will be the 1st elected Attorney General? Who will seek open seats as officeholders try to move up?

Questios is - who is going to do any better than Mayor Gray is currently doing. The few things like the Crummel School, DCPS school closings/Brookland middle and the trolley site at Spingarm wouldn't have been any different with any of the current candidates. They didn't stand for and Wells barely waded into Crummel at last minute like he was deaf the entire year before.

Mayor Gray should run again. Even if he is guilty of what he is being accused of - somewhere, somehow -- others are probably doing something that they could be under investigation for -- guilty or not. At least we would have ethical issues about something.

You only change things if we are going to change for the better and that has not been shown thus far.

By the way, I'm only mentioning names should Mayor Gray choose not to run for whatever reason.  He can decide to announce late and still win.  He may get tired of all the "hating" and scrutiny in that position and move on for a calmer life.

I read an article about Vince Cohen who I believe is in Machen's office.  He might be someone to add to the list.  I'd like to see Marie Johns on the list of possibilities now that she is leaving the Small Business Administration.  She has a great balance of skills and experience.

It may be worthwhile to prepare for other potentially vacant seats next year.  If Catania runs for mayor or the Attorney General spot, then he will need to give up his at large seat.  That means a non-Democrat will need to run for his position.  Wells is running for mayor so can't run for his Ward 6 council seat.  These are expected openings.

Also, the Attorney General seat will be on the ballot.  I've only heard of Catania or Scott Bolden as possibilities for those spots.  Any others?

Other names I've heard being floated: David Catania and Ron Machen.  If Catania (as an Independent) doesn't have to worry about a primary, he can wait, raise money and explore more.  Machen - if he indicts and/or arrests every member of the Council, he could clean his own path to the Wilson Building!  Happy hump day.

Are there any other possibilities or names mentioned?  Who has the best shot and who has no shot?  I don't see Marie Johns running, who would have been a worthy candidate.  Even though I have listed announced and possible candidates that doesn't mean that the incumbent isn't running or isn't the best candidate.  This is just prepping for next year's race.  Will anyone be drafted to run?

By the way, do we have a date for the election of the D.C. Democratic State Committee members?  Will the elections be before the Mayoral primary?   Citizens may want to focus on getting people elected to that body as well.  Some may be reelected, too.
