[WardFive] Re: RE: [ward5] Nominations for officers for June election

Wait!  Is this the same Debbie Steiner who was elected to ANC5E in November (seven months ago) and has only attended one ANC5E meeting since?  Hmmm...Sounds like the pot calling the kettle doesn't it?

Dear Ward et, al

As someone who has been directly affected by Silas Grant and his lack of leadership as an ANC Commissioner, I whole heartily disagree.  While Silas has grown as a person, his recent and prior leadership as an ANC Commissioner has left this current SMD 5E01 Community disappointed.  Silas Grant is still under a cloud of unethical activity as it relates to his so call non profit that received money from the Children Youth Investment Trust.  Currently CYITC is still going over the books relating to how several non profits were given money under HTJ direction with no actually legal documents forming non profit's --Silas Grant's prior non profit of which he was affiliated, is one who received funds and had lacked  the legal documentation.   And no accounting has been provided by Silas Grant for the more than $30,000  that his organization received that I am aware.  Silas Grant and his Organization was written up in a Washington Post article identifying his lack of paperwork and accounting.  If he has corrected this issue  I would like Silas Grant to provide it to this listserve.

Silas Grant, as the SMD Commissioner of the prior 5C09, did not attend quite a few of his ANC Commission meetings his last year in office, '12.  He allowed the prior Councilmember, HTJ to railroad a development process into our community;  from which the community had no real input before the train left the station.  The housing development has houses directly facing end housing of existing homes which are only 25 feet away from each other.

In addition, the ANC 5C leadership before redistricting, of which Silas Grant, Thomas Bradley, Tim Clark and others were a part of, did not do their do diligence regarding, maintaining financial oversight of the money which was allotted to ANC 5C.  Only GiGi Ransom spoke up and out about the financial mess of that prior ANC 5C.  In fact, the other sitting Commissioner's at that time, with Ronnie Edwards as Chair, allowed then, Commissioner Tim Clark, who was the Grants Committee Chair to push through improper grants which has been one of the main causes of the CURRENT ANC 5C to be insolvent. Further, these past Commissioners of ANC 5C failed to provide the auditor timely financial reports for an entire year.  It was only until the DC Auditor's audit of the prior ANC 5C finances did the 5C Commission create the reports that were required and needed more than a year or two before. This was the only way this prior ANC 5C came  into reporting compliance with the DC auditor.   However because of the auditor's findings, it has caused financial hardship on the current ANC 5C.  The current ANC 5C has not been able to get the prior ANC 5C Chair, Ronnie Edwards, who is running for First Vice for the Ward 5 Democrats, to write a letter to the AG and others to assist with clearing up the financial mess he and the prior ANC 5C left behind.
So where is this great leadership?

The current ANC 5C which has new leadership, had nothing to do with the prior ANC 5C's financial mess.  They are now going through a process in trying to resolve those financial issues that has preventing them from getting any allotments from the DC Auditor;  and now, we have some of the same people who cause this financial mess running for higher office.  When the ANC Commissioners were in office, that lack the responsibility for representing their respective communities, by doing right. So  how do you then justify or consider placing them in a higher office?

Ward 5, the Ward 5 Democrats need to be separate and a part form the Councilmember's office.  CM McDuffie's slate is  Chair -Silas Grant; First-Vice - Ronnie Edwards; Second-Vice; Sandi Washington; Third-Vice; Jon Mandel (who just registered as a Democrat this past April);  Treasurer: Adrian Jordan (who has no accounting background and is not a certified CPA); Financial Secretary - Jamal Thrower ( a part of HTJ prior regime); so what do you want for true leadership for your Ward?

We, as a Ward, should want a better governance body of leadership instead of supporting friends. Isn't that what got us in trouble with HTJ?  And where is he now?  New leadership with new ideas to move our ward forward should be the direction we would want to go.

I have nothing against Mr. Rogers and don't know enough about him but it looks like Eric J. and I are on the same page with the support of Silas Grant. As for what I have become to know of him, Silas is an awesome Young Man!!!  All for youthful leadership when the person has a solid foundation -- and he does!!

Mr Grant is a great young man who has done a lot of work in the community.  He is a former ANC in the same SMD which he gre up in as a child.  As an adult him and his wife decided to make the area there home as well.

He is around my age (I think a year older) and is very, very active in the ward and for that part the city. Your son may know him. As it relates to Ward 5 Dems I'm fully supporting him and I think that he is the type of young,  fresh leadership that the organization needs.

I do not understand what Tony is noting but no one is running for two position on the Ward 5 Dems. I will say that some individual do not get around like they try to present them self but those how are running for the "Chair" like Andrew Rodger has been attending meeting of the ward 5 Dems for a long time and who I fully support to take our community of Democratic leaders to a new level that many individuals can not and plus bring back respect to our ward 5 dems. One of the most influential African American ward's of DC we have to get in front of the 8 ball for our community/children/seniors and those individuals less forgotten. Mr. Andrew Rodger will surely take us their and beyond. So vote for him on June 24th starting at 6pm at Michigan Park Christian Church.

Also First Vice: Theo Brown,Second Vice: Franklin Garcia,Third Vice: Debbie Steiner, Treasurer: Allison D. Reese, Financial Secretary: Hazel Thomas, Corresponding Secretary: Jeralyn Cave, Asst. Recording Secretary: Shanna Cockrell. Way to go team for moving Ward 5 forward!

I wish Ronnie Edwards would move up to run for chair or Grace Lewis, but that could only happen with a write since the nominations were due in May.  I'd like to keep the top spot with some continuity and passion and with a proven leader.  But I guess I need to look at the remaining three candidates for chair since Brannum is not running now.  I don't know all the candidates well and expect to see campaign literature circulating.

Chair

Robert Brannum (withdrawn as of May 30, 2013)
Albrette "GiGi" Ransom
Silas Grant
Andrew Rogers

1st Vice Chair

Theo Brown

2nd Vice Chair

Tim Thomas
Franklin Garcia
Leoana Redmond
Sandi Washington

3rd Vice Chair

Financial Secretary
