The issue is not about dog parks/dog bites. It is the priority position that dogs and wants of dog owners have taken over our children's NEEDS!! This goes back to a mostly White folk push and the Campaign Coffers which needs to be filled.
Realistically, we can build an inexpensive chainlink fence to section off that 5000sf for the dogs - at the max a few thousand that the dog owners can put together if the city designated a space and never gave a penny.
Like I said before - I love animals and have them. Anyways, This is like the old Caribbean/Tradewinds song - who's civilized and who's the jacka**.
It is amazing that as soon as Whites move into areas that have been predominantly Black, we get a dog park. No problem at all there but we can take a ride to certain schools and rec. Centers to see what our kids are currently facilitated with and how good some dogs have it. I was appalled in my early 20's (20 YEARS AGO) when l first went into many DC Schools.
So you know, dogs play feeely in Lincoln Park, Dupont Circle, Thomas Circle, etc. Go figure. Those dog owners
Like I always say - perspective. That's why Black folks are upset. So you get that I understand - it is amazing to watch dogs run/jump and have fun but it is more tough to see our kids not having the resources that even dogs are getting!!!!

Dog parks are for dog owners and, of course, they are humans. Anytime I have ever called 911 about an animal, they have always referred me to the Washington Humane Society. The Unified Command Center has forwarded my call to the animal law enforcement officer on duty. There is an emergency animal line and a animal bite line. Given my novice understanding of how animals that bite must be quarantined, I would contact WHS. -jon

My only concern is that like the BIKES (to vehicels) that the DOGS will have more rights to open space than HUMANS, particularly kids!

> With all due respect, I am sorry that MPD is not responding to your calls for misbehaving dogs and their owners. In my experience they've been VERY responsive when a dog attacked a person. It's true, I've never contacted MPD about off leash dogs walking in my area but I use every preventive measure in the book to avoid contact with such dogs.
> A noteworthy thing to support the dog park, in my honest opinion, is that dog owners will police themselves MORE to avoid shutting down the amenity. If i were with my dog in a dog park and i see an off leashed dog running outside the fenced area, I would immediately contact the owner or 911 or whoever (i've seen this happen and the situation was corrected immediately, actually)
> Again, any questions or comments are welcome because we all need to voice our opinions about this proposed dog parks. What I ask, though, is that we move away from generalizations and prejudices because they don't help anyone, people nor dogs.
> I find that dog parks are a great facility where DPR and Dept of Health can monitor dog behavior and dog health in general terms. There's a long list of rules for dogs to be allowed in: city license (yeah, dogs need a LICENSE! mine has it), rabies shots, etc.

We walk by there all the time and those DOG OWNERS seem to respect the law a bit better than the users of FL Ave and the 'Pocket Park' on our end of the neighborhood.

> Clarification 1: the park across from Big Bear is NOT a dog park. Dogs should not run off leash, dogs aren't even allowed in the grounds. If you see dogs there contact 311 or 911.
> Clarification 2: the 5000 sf proposed park is an ENCLOSED area where dogs MUST arrive and leave ON LEASH. They are not allowed to run off leash. For a successful example see LeDroit park, the dog park has a double gate with manual lock that impedes dogs from leaving the enclosed area.
