Hello folks,

 

Lot's of opportunities to fight school closures coming up, if you are interested in participating/volunteering for any of these events please make sure to let me know: 

 

• Saturday March 9th – 12 to 3pm – Meet at Anacostia Metro Station (Green line)- Community outreach day to get the word out about our upcoming Save Our Schools Summit.  We will also collect petition signatures and capture folks contact information. Thanks to those who have signed up to help out but we could still use some more folks J  Looking like it will be a nice day too.

 

• Tuesday March 12th – Mayor Gray's Fiscal Year 2014 Budget for Public Schools in the District of Columbia – 5:30pm - Turkey Thicket Recreation Center (1100 Michigan Avenue, NE) – This is an annual meeting the mayor hosts in regards to funding for the upcoming fiscal year's school budget.  This is a great opportunity to continue pressuring the mayor about his terrible decision to close more schools, if you are able to attend please let me know.   We will be distributing flyers and folks who would like to testify should contact - Brandon Starkes in the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education via email at brandon.starkes@dc.gov or by telephone at (202) 727-4036 by 4 pm on Thursday, March 7, 2013.

 

• Thursday March 14^th – Save Our Schools Summit – 6:30-8:30pm – Temple of Praise (700 Southern Avenue, SE) – Join us for an information session and rally building support for our Lawsuit to stop the planned closure of 15 DC Public Schools impacting over 2,700 students of color.  We will be introducing our plaintiffs from the impacted schools, introducing our legal team, reviewing the legal strategy and building general support for these efforts.  Flyer is attached, please share and distribute widely.  To RSVP for this event please contact me Daniel at 202-234-9119 xt. 104 or via email.
