There is no probable about it.  This was Wells approach to Supporting Kenyan when it came to getting some support for his ageda.  A Delano wouldn't have been supportive of the Spingarm Trolley CRAP nor the closing of Spingarm.  During the initial Committee on Education's Meeting with Kaya, Tommy Wells was only focused on the Trolley Barn issue with his support of closing Spingarm and having "training" done at the Trolley Barn and Federal Money which could be used elsewhere -- Definite not specific because of trolley barn on Spingarm's yard. 
 
My question still stands -- where are all the "TRAINING PROGRAMS" for kids on regular metro buses and rails in this CITY?? But yet this is such a selling point. Furthermore, Tommy Wells is not for our KIDS -- he has his agenda set to Capital Hill DC and the future of Black Kids aren't a part of his plan.  So, he can keep talking all that "Ward 6 has the most public housig" than any other Ward" if he wants, but I guarantee that he would get rid of them the first chance he got.  Those Public Housing people don't get any love from Tommy Wells yet he likes to talk about it.  It is just where the lines is drawn up. 

As for problems that are accentuated by Mr. Barry's failures;  First, I would like Eric J. to be more specific about the problems he is talking about as it related to Mr. Barry.  Not condoning it, but had folks not tried to get Mr. Barry, no one would have really known about any "drug issue/womanizing".  Now, that's what the entire country knows about DC along with it being full of crime.
 
So those who share Eric's views should know, most of the things that occurred were outside of Mr. Barrys Control who tried to get lots of help from Congress. Furthermore, the Black "leaders", Pastors, Middle Class had the same opportunity to purchase the land and properties here that the Whites like the Horning Bros. swallowed up.  From what I understand, Mr. Barry told, damn near begged Blacks to invest in the City.  Now, Chocolate City is becoming Caramel on the way to Vanilla with Bean Specks!! 
 
Now, Since Eric J. is talking -- What has our Mayor who he sucks up to really done for the education of our youth especially when he fought against Rhee but kept her entire Staff and failing system -- now 6 years and we might as well count 2013. I know the Mayor cares but there is nothing new that he is doing and he still entrusts this most important duty to a proven failure.  So everyone knows, Eric doesn't like Mr. Barry and VO because they don't really play into his game of "lobbying". 
 
Let's hear Eric J. identify the flaws of the rest of the CMs -- he is close enough to know where the "bodies" are buried!!   He should speak now or forever hold his peace!!  But, he won't because it affects his paycheck.

Though maybe he could help her create a website that lays out her stances on the various issues that voters care about.  Cause as of right now I still can't even consider voting for her because I have no clue what she is in favor of or opposed to.  I hope to see that change soon since the clock is ticking down...

Barry did a lot of good, even when his personal problems were getting the best of him.  Note that after the control board, Congress lightened our role by removing some costly fixtures.  Same with the chancellor, the role was lightened compared to predecessors and the salary went up.  One day history will show that Barry was one of the brightest and best mayors.

Tony yes cheh and wells are married. As far as Barry he supported a large number of things which could have been seen as bad for future generations. Just think many of the young and middle age adults who problems he constantly talks of trying to fix grew up during his Mayoral time frame.

Tony why would you say they all don't understand children or family? Cheh is a college professor and mother and Wells is a former school board rep. Please explain this further.

The hottest issues that are facing the District is 1) School closing/truancy/social issues-education. 2) zoning 3) affordable housing. 4)jobs/careers for district residents.

Lets tell the true here. Mara is not able to obtain the African American voters period.

Micheal Brown is not able to obtain the White voters even in the 2008 election or the general 2010.

 Elissa Silverman is having problems with the liberals coming to fully support her.

Anita Bonds is from the old guard/old/ and women do not like to vote for women which is funny.(here in DC)

Matthew Frumin who people really do not know who has the money/best spot on the ballot/community leadership for year does not know how to put all that together in campaign to win, because with all of that he should win hands down.

Paul Zukerburg is an attorney who helps out defends with drugs charges. Speaks of legalizing drugs..lol

Perry Redd- will he is the statehood party. I do not have to say any more than that. website is Ghetto


What they all have in common is that no one is leading on GOTV. Also they have boring platforms/no platforms not robust.

The other problems that they all have is that they are running for at-large and they are not able to cross culture lines! Sad


There is more but I am not going to explain.

This article is spot on at this point. Brown while he may not be that visible in certain parts of our ward (for that matter no one has been including Bonds at this point) is working his base hard and has thr name recognition of having run at least three times citywide already and being a former Councilman.
Mara much like Brown has run several times in the past and as the lone republican in the race has a natural base which will largely be untapped by others.
While Anita is well known in political circles and is a sitting member she still has to work to increase her name recognition in key voting groups. In addition she is competing for a group of voters.
When you speak of Silverman she is seen in many circles to be overly liberal which can be a big negative. In addition she isn't concentrating on the types of voters who read mediums such as this. It isn't by accident that het signs are all over the poles and such on the hill. She is targeting a certain voting block who she thinks can lead her to a split victory.
As for Frumin many think this is his early entrance to challenge Cheh in ward 3. I personally don't think he has the message or true movement ready to win citywide yet.
On the other hand I'm just not willing to support Silverman because her message isn't always in the best interest of the entire city and I don't trust her.
With that in mind I haven't decided on who I will casty vote for this time around. I seriously doubt that I or my wife will donate to anyone and will more than likely we will cast our early votes once we make our decision.

Considering the very short amount of time and the extremely low (historically) turnout that accompanies special elections, three things unfortunately trump issues when it comes to who people vote for.  They are name recognition, organization and money.  Brown and Mara have the first (name rec.) by far - Bonds as incumbent a bit further behind; for the second (organization) Mara and Brown have it in droves from his many races and past time on Council, respectively, and Silverman is closely behind; for the third (money), Frumin with his wealthy national Democratic base is by far in the lead, but Brown has many past backers and Mara and Sliverman are also raising a good bit.

If you look at the DCWatch folks or those in Wards 3 and 4, who take an extremely conservative approach to the rewrite - are they going to come out in droves supporting Mara?  That could help put him over the top.  Are the progressives who want to see the rewrite liberalized greatly going to back someone like Frumin or Silverman and split the vote?

Are parents whose children's schools are closing actually looking to see where their candidates stand on that issues and vote accordingly? 

If nothing else, it'll be interesting...

The ppl that I speak with are fond of Brown, but then again Brown is a KNOWN name.  And unfortunately thats how they go... I like the Patrick guy but he is a FAMILY VALUES guy, unfortunately he's a REP also.   And he or Silverman may win if you look at how Grosso won - since this is an AT LARGE seat and all Wards are participating.  I will wait til til the time gets closer before I LOCK in on a candidate and urge others to support.
 
I am lookin for family and CHILDREN oriented candidate who cares at least on face about the men, women, and children of this City than their own climb to the top of the food chain known as DC govt.

I find it hard to believe that one of the women are not in the lead or at least quickly approaching.  The headline is not supported in the article, unless a couple of people watching speak for the entire city.  One would think that Democrat Silverman would overtake Republican Mara in the progressive world.  Councilmember Anita Bonds is the incumbent so she is probably the frontrunner.  Mara might not even be a serious contender this time.  What do the polls say?  Some think that the race is down to Bonds vs. Brown.  At this point, no one can be ruled out--at least the top four.

With a seven-person at-large D.C. Council race slated for next month, most political observers believe Republican Patrick Mara and establishment Democrat Michael Brown have emerged as the race's leading candidates.
 
Brown, a former councilman tainted by questions surrounding his former campaign, likely leads the candidates in name recognition, experts say. Patrick Mara, who lost a race to Councilman Vincent Orange, has the unique advantage of having an uncontested core constituency: Republicans.
 
"[Mara] has the only base in the race that is exclusively his," said Chuck Thies, a political analyst who voted for Mara last time around.
 
In the April 23 special election, the candidate who receives the most votes will win the at-large council seat, meaning that whichever candidate can successfully get supporters to the polls will win the race, even if they don't receive a majority of the votes.
Thies said he expects Brown and sitting Councilwoman Anita Bonds to compete for "middle-class African-American voters," while former Washington Post reporter Elissa Silverman and Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Matthew Frumin would both attract "white progressive voters and new residents."
 
Robert Brannum, chairman of the Ward 5 Democratic Committee who supports Bonds, the race's incumbent, labeled Bonds, Brown, Silverman and Mara top-tier candidates.
 
"The only two that clearly have name recognition would be Patrick Mara and Michael Brown," Brannum said.
 
A.J. Cooper, who dropped out early in the race and endorsed Silverman, says Silverman, Brown and Mara lead the pack.
 
"Splitting of the vote gives Pat a chance. If it was one Democrat against Pat, he wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell," Cooper said. He cautioned that Mara has been overhyped.
 
The race could change dramatically as candidates attract endorsements and voters begin to pay attention to a contest that has received limited public interest so far, experts said.
 
For example, Bonds' campaign manager said she would draw "multiple" endorsements from sitting council members.
 
Frumin, who substantially outraised his opponents in January, could overcome his poor name recognition if the dollars continue to roll in, observers said.
 
Silverman, a former reporter and policy wonk, could translate her insider connections and reputation as thoughtful into a die-hard voter base.
 
Although Paul Zukerberg, who recently survived a challenge to his candidacy at the D.C. Board of Elections, is widely known as a pro-marijuana attorney, his debate performances have helped him establish a credible candidacy.
 
Perry Redd, representing the traditionally overlooked Statehood Green Party, could win a contest that may draw only the most dedicated voters. Redd said he is upbeat about his campaign's efforts to attract voters.
 
Eugene Kinlow, host of "DC Politics Hour" on WPFW-FM, said of Redd, "This is a real chance for him to win -- if there ever was a chance for a Statehood candidate to win."
