[WardFive] Re: [ward5] Re: Proposed Senior Housing Project Draws Community Criticism (Ward 5 Heartbeat)

Luke,

I want to write some articles for the Heartbeat.  I want to know about the White Man that Posed as a Black Man on the internet under the Name of JR Turner / Jim Turner.  Rumor has it that it was the Husband of the Editor for the Heartbeat - Don Padou. Geez -- please allow me to write some "reality" articles.

I am still wondering why some of our progressive "community" doesn't come forth and "bemoan" this type of behavior.  I am sure that there must be some "self righteous" White Folks out there who would like to make a stand against such Horrible Acts.

As to bemoaning "gentrification", we don't.  We appreciate anyone who appreciates our community.  We just bemoan the attitudes that some White gentrification brings because they seem to focus on their needs above the real needs of the Community and when existing residents are insulted, they get labeled as "bemoaners".   It is amazing when folks try to protect their history and Historic sites that we get over-ran by the gentrification $$$$/Voices.

So you know, Our folks over in that area know what they want for their seniors and I do believe that Seniors over there have their own homes and can afford Trash Cans if that would free up time for legislation to save our schools.

First, nice to see someone from Ward 5 Heartbeat sign their name to an article. Ah, progress!

Second, I wonder how many of the people opposing this senior housing project have, at one time or another, bemoaned "gentrification" and lack of affordable housing in the city. I've had family who have lived in affordable senior housing and it's often quite pleasant, albeit no frills, on the interior and exterior. That type of housing is a real blessing to low income seniors and the people who care about them.

Faith United Church of Christ is seeking to build the apartment building, called Faith Senior Housing, for senior citizens over the age of 55.

> At a meeting on November 7th, members of the North Michigan Park Civic Association voted overwhelmingly against the zoning amendment, 119 to 3. Advisory Neighborhood Commission 5A also voted to oppose the zoning change.

Richard Washington, Vice President of Business Development at Retirement Housing Foundation, said apartments at the Faith Senior Housing building would be “affordable,†which means only those with incomes less than 60% of area median income would be eligible to apply to live there. In 2012, this meant an individual with income less than $45,180 would pay a maximum monthly rent of $1,008 for a one-bedroom, single-person household.

He also said there were 5,000 eligible renters over the age of 55 in the area surrounding the proposed development.

Resident Catherine Jenkins said she feared the project would hurt property values. “You put that property there and the value of our homes decreases,†she said. Some residents expressed concern about the impact on parking from an influx of new residents. “The issue with parking is going to be tremendous,†one resident said.
