The National Alliance of Black Educators has wrapped up their 40th Conference session that was held in Tennessee.
One of the speakers was District of Columbia, DCPS, Chancellor, Kaya Henderson. During her address to the audience in attendance, a remark was made-- Kaya Henderson stated how she wanted to turn one of the DCPS high schools into a charter school.
Now correct me if I am wrong; wasn't the reason for the Mayoral take over of public schools was to save and improve the traditional school model? If so, why is Kaya Henderson promoting a high school model/classification change?
Please be mindful, Anthony Williams, our prior Mayor, was the reason for the Charter Schools entering into the District; he now heads the Federal City Council. Mayor Vincent Gray appointed Anthony Williams to this position. Is this what we sign up for?
Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life, as by the obstacles which one has overcome while trying to succeed.
