[WardFive] New Development Proposed for Rhode Island Ave

FYI. There is a meeting on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Friendship Public Charter School - 2959 Carlton Avenue, NE at 6:30PM which will include a presentation on 2900 Rhode Island Avenue, NE. A buyer would like to house homeless veterans at that site. The buyer would like to know the concerns from the neighborhood before they proceed with their plans.

The proposed location is on the corner of Rhode Island Ave and Newton, across street the Senior Citizen apartments.

Now that we are looking all the revitalization of RIAve it would be good to see how the proposed facility will fit in with overall Great Streets Plan for RIAve.

While I know we owe the Veterans a great deal of gratitude for protecting this country, I have concerns about the loitering I see around homeless shelters. What will they do during the day?

I am holding off on my final opinion until after the presentation next Tues Nov 13. Hope the Ward 5 community comes out to learn more about the proposed facility. This is an ANC 5A11 meeting. I believe the meetings are open however, if a vote is taken only members of the SMD 5A11 can vote.

Spread the word - The meeting is Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Friendship Public Charter School - 2959 Carlton Avenue, NE at 6:30PM.
