[WardFive] Re: [ward5] Disheartening - to say the least!

Julianne,

We can't even handle the small issues at our local level at the Wilson Bldg.  I am sure that everyone from the Mayor to all the CM's to the Deputy Mayors, to DCPS, to the Department heads who handles contracts means well.  Somehow, they all know what's best for us and the rest of us don't have brains and can't think for ourselves.  And then almost always, they "allow" this thing they call input (come testify) like we are all some sheep.

The problem is that most of them have never built anything themselves (from ground up), never did anything other than work for govt., a law firm, a school and got sucked into the "politics" of the system and so they are easily guided by those who have money (developers) and influence or greed or simply care just for their corner of the world.  The Irony is that most of these folks are intelligent hard working folks who believe that they are working in our "best interest" but it is too easy for them to BS the Public so many of them get away with the comingling of "duties" and campaign/relationship "debts" so that it benefits them but stays within the "legal" realms of operation. Parameters needs to be redefined and duties really needs to be separated.

We can't continue to mix legislation with hands or influence on funding.  It just doesn't work.  Things needs to be revamped downtown.  But, I guess Mr. Peloquin is right to a certain extent - folks are in it for themselves or you would not have the issues that we are having in our communities. With the technology available, why can't we just wire up/camera up/televise all the discussions that's occurring so that we can be fully informed (real time - real talk) and see who's doing what, who's influencing who, who the beneficeries are, who is really is getting the contracts -- if it is so on on the UP and UP, let's have the details public.  But, that's too much like right!

Short of having a Gandhian or King movement, this is going to continue.

Agreed.  Not sure, short of all out civil unrest, what it takes to be heard.  Worse yet, we can't reach consensus on the core values we hold, so any glib speech and slick presentation effectively passes for a political platform.  The President has been largely silent on education, allowing the war to be defended by unions all over the country, and he is garnering middle class support by placing himself at odds with the tea party and other forces of the right fringe.  No one is holding him accountable on this stuff, and our belief in him, at least on this issue, might be misplaced.  But what choices do we have?

Dear Community,

As I go to sleep tonight, the most disheartening thing about all that we as a community have to go through is the deceipt, trickery and cunning approaches to everything that occurs amongst our representatives in the Govt. It is a shame that we have to go through the stress that we do just to protect our kids, teachers, schools, land, etc. because everyone and everything seems to be for sale!!

Just Sad.  Too much like right and respectful to have our Representative and their staff to come clean and just be open about the discussions regarding our communities/city. It is like waking up everyday and experiencing what our neighbors in Bloomingdale did with feces in their basement - that's some real sh**!!!

It is just really SAD!!!
