[WardFive] DCDSC Give Notice of Schedule for Temporary At-Large Councilmember Appointment

NOTICE OF SCHEDULE FOR TEMPORARY APPOINTMENT OF AT-LARGE COUNCILMEMBER

 

On December 10, 2012, in accordance with [DC Code, Section 1-204.02] the membership of the District of Columbia Democratic State Committee (DCDSC) will “appoint a qualified elector affiliated with the Democratic Party to fill the vacancy on the Council due to the election of Councilmember Phil Mendelson as Chairman of the Council. The appointment is temporary pending the outcome of a Special Election to be held by the DC Board of Elections and Ethics (DCBOEE) within 70-174 days as established by Law. The candidate who receives 50% plus one (1) vote of the DCDSC members present and voting will be seated to serve as interim At-Large Councilmember until the outcome of the Special Election is known. Interested candidates must meet the following requirements to be placed in consideration MUST have legally resided in the District of Columbia for one (1) year preceding the scheduled appointment. MUST have been registered as a Democrat with the DCBOEE on or before December 11, 2011. MUSTcirculate and return nominating petitions with a minimum of 200 valid signatures of registered Democrats in the District of Columbia: including at least 25 per Ward and no less than 27 signatures of current DCDSC members. Interested candidates MUST complete a Notification of Candidacy Form when receiving Petitions. If Petitions are downloaded from the DCDSC website, candidates must file the electronic notification when downloading the petitions. Completed nominating petitions MUST be accompanied by a Declaration of Candidacy and Statement of Qualifications/Biographical Sketch (150 words or less each) as prescribed by the DCDSC. TIMELINE Friday November 9, 2012 Issuance of Public Notice/Press Release Wednesday November 14, 2012 Nominating petitions become available for circulation. Petitions may be obtained online at www.dcdemocraticparty.orgor potential candidates may call 202-714-3368 or 202-558-6389 with questions or to make arrangements to pick up petitions. All candidates must file notification of candidacy when receiving petitions. Wednesday November 28, 2012 Deadline for submission of completed nominating petitions, Declaration of Candidacy and Statement of Qualification/Biographical Sketch (150 words or less). Note: All Documents must be filed in person at 1050 17th St. NW, Suite 1000. November 26, 2012 is the first day candidates may file completed petitions. Thursday November 29, 2012 Preliminary List of Candidates posted online at www.dcdemocraticparty.org Thursday, Nov 29 thru Monday Dec 3, 2012 Official challenge period begins 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012 and Ends Monday December 3, 2012 (Sunday Excluded).
