Yes it is. If Grosso didn't win Ward 5, he will have an uphill reelection battle.

Okay people the issue he was the money that was taken by the treasure of the campaign not the campaign manager. Second I was ask to help out his campaign and I did but CM Brown is more humble than people know and I hope he does make a come back in the near future.
Grosso won off the split of votes. Period which they know so he also know that he did not win ward 5 and so the list for him grows long for support come 2016. The real problem is that his head and Tommy Wells think they can make the changes without the black vote not so. So the game is on.!

Maybe that will help lessen some of the financial drama. I don't know about the campaign funds and the campaign manager drama though.

I think this is the reason many people didn't support Brown. There has just been too much drama in a few years. Many people are wondering who will be the next person to go down. Many people didn't/don't know Grosso and that may be why some stuck with Brown. I think it was the drama more than race and Grosso's name was out there so he was the alternative. This is not to say that Grosso is not a good person.
No burdened by the appearance of schandel. Michael Brown probally would have sailed to reelection if it were not for HTJ and KB. Following those two very traumatic experiences, voters, maybe not rightfully but maybe so, decided to not vote for someone with baggage. MB is a nice man, and was a good Council Member, but to be frank a privileged black man from upper northwest isn't going to get to play the poor black guy card.

Rob,
Could it be the DG was just a better candidiate. Surely DG is white, but more importantly he's now the CM elect.
So now two of the At-Large CMs are in Ward 5. Maybe instead of playing racial politics, we should actually work to build a Ward 5 coalition.
If MB is so inclined he can run in the spring along with AC Cooper. Two political dynasties at odds. And then there's Brian Weaver, and perhaps even Ms. Bonds. In the end, DC is surely going to vote in someone decent.
I know it's not popular but we do have some very decent progressive councilmembers. Of the newly elected members I'm fondest of our chair. I don't forsee scandal there, now as soon as I write this there's probally a police raid happening at this minute. LOL

Jeff --Getting back to your request that Jerry and I weigh in on this, here it isAfter reading all the Gurus and their thought processes about Grosso's win, it was interesting that no one looked at it from the angle:---What if Grosso was Black??---How would this changed who Whites voted for? When doing your re-calculation, I want you to remember, Grosso has had no history of doing anything in the community that we know of - at least not in Ward 5.He - like so many others who ran for Ward 5 CM position don't speak up on anything or don't stand on anything but all of a sudden during election times, they care about education, seniors, community, etc.!!! Now, I don't have any issues with Grosso and like he and I spoke, his chances were pretty good considering how the votes would fall. The fact that Michael had some "issues", definitely helped but:Do you really think that Whites would have voted for Grosso if he was Black and had the lack of a community record that he did?Let's Be Real. Maybe Kenyan can put forth some legislation that prohibits sitting CM's from endorsing candidates so that they don't get to build their coalitions for their personal and "professional" gain.Rob Ramson
