A week of free events presented by the National Symphony Orchestra throughout DC, January 3-8, 2018.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 3, 2018

11:00 a.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
Central Union Mission, 65 Massachusetts Ave., NW
NSO musicians Lisa-Beth Lambert (violin), Jennifer Mondie (viola), Eugena Chang (cello), and Nicholas Stovall (oboe) perform at D.C.'s oldest social services agency.

7:00 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
"The Evolution of the Keyboard"
First Congregational United Church of Christ, 945 G St., NW

UCC Music Director John Horman leads a program titled "The Evolution of the Keyboard", which will take place in the church's sanctuary. Featuring organist Russell Weismann, pianist Brandon Straub, and harpsichordist Todd Fickley. Free and open to the public.

7:00 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America,1400 Quincy St., NE

NSO members Marissa Regni, violin; Rachel Young, cello; Paul Cigan, clarinet; and Lisa Emenheiser, piano perform an evening chamber music. Free and open to the public.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 4, 2018

6:30 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
Woodridge Neighborhood Library, 1801 Hamlin St., NE

This 60-minute chamber performance takes place in the library's Rotunda. Local musicians Brittney Allen (flute) and Herman Burney (cello and bass) are joined by NSO musicians Deanna Lee Bien and Claudia Chudacoff (violins); Eric deWaardt (viola); and Eugena Chang (cello). Free and open to the public.

8:00 p.m.: KICK-OFF CONCERT
The Hamilton Live, 600 14th St., NW

This 60-minute chamber performance, featuring two NSO string quartets, is the official kick-off event for NSO In Your Neighborhood and welcomes the public to a week of free events. Musicians featured: Alexandra Osborne and Joel Fuller, violins; Mahoko Eguchi, viola; Rachel Young, cello; and Alexander Jacobsen, Charles Nilles, William Wasson, and Jeffery Weisner, basses. This event is free, but registration is required at live.thehamiltondc.com<about:invalid#zSoyz>. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 5, 2018

6:00 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
Shakespeare Theatre Company, 610 F St., NW

This performance features NSO musicians Ricardo Cyncynates, violin; Jae-Yeon Kim, violin; Tsuna Sakamoto, viola; Eugena Chang, cello; and Claire Eichhorn, clarinet in a program of music inspired by Shakespeare's writings. The event takes place in the Forum at Sidney Harman Hall. Free and open to the public, but advance registration is required at shakespearetheatre.org/events.<http://www.shakespearetheatre.org/events.>

7:00 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
First Congregational United Church of Christ, 945 G St., NW

This 60-minute performance features NSO musicians cellist Mark Evans and bassist Charles Nilles and will take place in the sanctuary. Free and open to the public.

8:00 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
Israel Manor, Inc., 1251 Saratoga Ave., NE

This 60-minute performance will take place in the church's Capitol City Hall of Distinction and features NSO musicians Lisa-Beth Lambert, violin; Jennifer Mondie, viola; Eugena Chang, cello; and Nicholas Stovall, oboe. Free and open to the public.

8:00 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
Smith Public Trust, 3514 12th St NE

This 60-minute performance will be shared by NSO violinist Glenn Donnellan and a local hip-hop artist. Free and open to the public.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 6, 2018

11:00 a.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
National Building Museum, 401 F St., NW

As part of a program called 1968: Shaping the District, NSO musicians Joel Fuller and Mahoko Eguchi, violin; Daniel Foster, viola; and Rachel Young, cello, perform a selection of pieces evocative of D.C. in that historic year. NSO violist William Foster speaks about his experiences living in Washington, D.C., and performing with NSO beginning in 1968. This event kicks off a year of city-wide programming and exhibitions as part of the 50th anniversary of the events that took place in 1968. Free and open to the public; more information can be found at www.nbm.org<about:invalid#zSoyz>.

11:30 a.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE

NSO musicians Heather LeDoux Green (violin) and Paul DeNola (bass) give a performance for families.

2:00 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
Kogod Courtyard, National Portrait Gallery, 8th St. NW and F St. NW
NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Emil de Cou, conductor

This NSO Family Concert, titled "Bernstein, Inside the Music," is part of a year-long celebration of Leonard Bernstein. The program honors the creator of Young People's Concerts by featuring his music and the idea that orchestral music can be accessible to everyone. The performance will take place in the Kogod Courtyard. A musical instrument "petting zoo" will take place before and after the performance in the McEvoy Auditorium. Free and open to the public.

4:00 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
National Portrait Gallery, 8th St. NW and F St. NW

An hour long concert of chamber music by a quartet of NSO musicians and friends — Jane Stewart and Susan Midkiff, violins; Denise Wilkinson, viola; and Kerry van Laanen, cello will be performed in the museum's Great Hall. Free and open to the public.

5:30 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
National Portrait Gallery, 8th St. NW and F St. NW

An hour long concert of chamber music will be performed by a quintet of NSO musicians — Nurit Bar-Josef and Heather LeDoux Green, violins; Dan Foster, viola; Mark Evans, cello; Eugene Mondie, clarinet — in the museum's Great Hall. Free and open to the public.

7:00 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
Kogod Courtyard, National Portrait Gallery, 8th St. NW and F St. NW
NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA,
Edwin Outwater, conductor

Conductor Edwin Outwater leads the full NSO in a concert located in the Kogod Courtyard. Repertoire for this concert is tied to works of art housed in the National Portrait Gallery.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 7, 2018

1:00 p.m.: MASTERCLASS
Asian American Music Society at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 945 G St., NW

This is a master class for cello students from the Asian American Music Society. Students will be pre-selected to perform and receive coaching from NSO cellist Rachel Young. The public is invited to observe; free.

2:00 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
McKinley Technology Education Campus, 151 T St., NW

An hour long concert of chamber music by the NSO bassoon section — Sue Heineman, Steven Wilson, Edward Rumzis, and Lewis Lipnick — will be performed in the school's auditorium. Free and open to the public.

3:00 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
International Spy Museum, 800 F St., NW

This family-friendly event features an NSO string quartet — Marissa Regni and Glenn Donnellan violins; Eric deWaardt, viola; and Eugena Chang, cello — performing espionage-themed music. Free for museum attendees. Audiences for this performance will receive $5 discounts to visit the Museum.

6:00 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
Busboys and Poets, 625 Monroe St., NE

NSO musicians and friends Ricardo Cyncynates and Jae-Yeon Kim, violins; Tsuna Sakamoto, viola; Eugena Chang, cello; and Claire Eichhorn, clarinet — will collaborate with local poets for this 2-hour performance. Free and open to the public.

6:30 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception,
400 Michigan Ave., NE

An hour long concert of chamber music by members of the NSO horn section— Abel Pereira, Robert Rearden, James Nickel, and Markus Osterlund, horn, and pianist Lisa Emenheiser — will be performed in the Crypt Church. Free and open to the public.

MONDAY, JANUARY 8, 2018

7:00 p.m.: COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE
