[WardFive] Fw: Children Performing Fundraising in Severe Weather Alert

Subject: Children Performing Fundraising in Severe Weather Alert

This morning, Sat, 12/29/12, about 10:20am I called 911 to have a patrol unit sent to the 7-11 strip mall in PSA 405.  There were 3 youths, ages 8, 14, and 17 out front of one of the stores selling candy as a fundraiser for their program, "the Future Leaders Mentors Program (FLMP)."  As we are all aware, there is a severe weather alert for the DC area.  These youth were somewhat dressed for the weather, however, the 8 & 14 year old didn't have any gloves.

Why am I concerned about this and these children being out in this kind of weather?  About 3-4 weeks ago, on a Saturday, there was another group of youth with an immature 22 yr old also at this location doing what they called fundraising for this program.  There have been other DC schools and Girls Scouts chapters who from time to time also do fundraising at this popular location, however, the difference is that these other groups are accompanied by a mature adult(s) and only stay out there for a few hours.  Don't recall any of these other groups doing fundraising in the winter, only Spring, Summer and sometimes in the Fall. The FLMP are out there all day, into the night.  The group weeks ago were out there from about 9am-8pm in very cold weather.  Kind customers from the stores brought them food, etc.

Also from the group a few weeks ago, the 22 yr old had problems with me asking questions about whether they were a non-profit and their registration for licensing to solicit funds in DC which is required by law.  They do wear a badge which identifies them in MD and allegedly in DC, but the claimed permit# didn't match what I had previously seen for DC solicitation.  I was able to speak with someone who said he was a manager with the program.  He was also defensive, but when I told him who I was and what I was aware of about the licensing/permitting, he calmed down.  He directed me to their website, which I researched but still didn't find anything about a confirmed DCRA registration.

This program is based in Temple Hills , MD.  The children out there today said they live in MD.  Not discriminating, but truly concerned as to how in these types of weather conditions, how anyone, parents or otherwise, supposedly in their right minds would send children out to do fundraising in these conditions.

Their website has been down since 12/23/12.  There are other links which include this program but on most they are listed as having a 501(c)(3), but on the most recent page they are non-profit status pending. From a listing on a volunteer's website, the FLMP's rules stated that by State law which I'm assuming is MD, a child under 12 needs written approval from a parent(s) or guardian.  For students under 9 yrs old, they must be physically accompanied by a parent or a person at least 16 yrs old.  In my opinion, there is a big difference in a parent, who could provide the needed nourishments to these children, as opposed to a 16 yr old with no money.  I could not locate DC's laws on this matter.

The officer did arrive and said there is nothing he could do about it.  I accepted that. However,  there is some common sense to this, another gut feeling that came to mind which is due to the weather conditions, what was so important/the urgent need that a program would risk the health and well-being of these children to raise money for this program; and are the funds raised actually being used to provide the program's services, or to provide salaries for those allegedly providing the services by using these children?

I don't know if the FLMP has other children out in DC areas fundraising in this weather, however, I rather be proven wrong in my thinking about this program, rather than just looking the other way.

As we come to the close of another year it is not too late to consider a gift to the church.  As a new year is about to begin consider all of the ways that God has brought you through 2012, and that you have weathered whatever storms by the grace of the Lord.  The Lord has brought you through, and for some offered new beginnings, such as employment and other milestones such as birthdays.  Maybe there has been the arrival of a child or grandchild?  Maybe medical issues have been overcome, and if not overcome the ability to deal with them effectively.  There have been many good things.  Give the glory to God and show God the gratitude by giving to your church.

We have made it easier for you to generously support your church and it's just a click away! We have set-up secure on-line giving and you can sign up to support your church even when you are not in worship (of course we would like for you to be in worship).

On lastSunday December 23rd,  we experienced our Sunday School's Christmas Pageant at 10 am and then our Service of Song and Celebration at the 11 am service.  We enjoyed the  sounds and moods of the Advent-Christmas season.  The Service of Song theme, "Precious Jesus" was moving as our choirs took us to higher ground in a celebration of Christmas, and as the choirs sang Rev. Isaac Solomon Lawson narrated scripture complimenting the music. The choirs were spectacular and the service was moving!

On Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2012 at 7 pm we enjoyed Bobby Felder and Friends as he blessed us and the community with a Christmas Jazz Gospel Celebration.   Christmas Eve at Plymouth was bright, beautiful, moving and merry!  There was a a sing a-long, and voices and music were joined together for a Christmas Eve to be remembered and enjoyed. PIC Releases Preliminary Public Ticketing Information for Inaugural Ball

WASHINGTON – Today, the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) announced plans to make a limited number of tickets for The Inaugural Ball available to the general public with the launch of a webpage where individuals can sign up for information about how to purchase tickets. Those who sign up will receive an email notification when tickets become available with a link where they can request up to two tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. The email sign-up page can be found here.

The second Inaugural of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will feature two official Inaugural balls on Monday, January 21st. In addition to the Commander-In-Chief’s Ball for members of the U.S. military, Americans from across the country will be invited to share in the celebration at The Inaugural Ball, a unified celebration for all Americans that will span every hall in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

“The President and Vice President’s second Inaugural will continue their commitment to giving Americans from across the country the chance to share in this celebration,” said Stephen J. Kerrigan, President and CEO of the Presidential Inaugural Committee. “Additionally, by holding a smaller number of Inaugural balls in a centralized location, we are continuing a more than 200-year-old tradition while reducing the burden on local law enforcement and security personnel, as well as on DC residents.”

Public tickets to The Inaugural Ball are limited and will cost $60 each. In keeping with tradition and the President and Vice President’s commitment to honoring the brave men and women of the nation’s armed forces, tickets to the Commander-In-Chief’s Ball will be provided free of charge to invited members of the U.S. military.

Additional details and ticketing information for The Inaugural Ball and other Inaugural weekend events will be released as soon as they become available.

[WardFive] DC Snow Team Full Deployment Sat., 12/29; HHW/E-Cycling/Document Shredding On Sat., Jan. 5

DC Snow Team Initiates First Full Deployment Of 2012-2013 Winter Season

Pre-Treatment Begins On Fri., Dec. 28

In anticipation of a winter storm predicted for this weekend, the DC Snow Team (Departments of Public Works and Transportation) will deploy 200 snow plows by 4 am on Saturday, December 29 and will pre-treat bridges, overpasses and other elevated structures with a brine and beet juice solution to reduce the possibility of freezing.  The weather services predict about 1inch of snow to accumulate in the District during the pre-dawn hours and then mix with rain after 9-10AM.

“The 200 plows will begin spreading salt on DC streets, including 82 residential routes once snow begins to fall,” said DPW Director William O. Howland, Jr.  “The system is fast moving and is expected to leave the area by 3-4PM Saturday.  We will monitor storm conditions to determine what, if any, changes should be made in our deployment plan.  The temperature is expected to be just above freezing during the day on Saturday, but will drop below freezing Saturday night; therefore, motorists and pedestrians should be very cautious as they travel because refreezing may occur.”

To track the plows, go to snow.dc.gov and click on http://snowmap.dc.gov/.

Snow Safety and Preparedness Tips:  People driving, walking or bicycling around the District should travel cautiously. Property owners are asked to pre-treat their sidewalks with abrasives and remove snow within 24 hours of the end of the storm, and assist their elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing their sidewalks. Also, for our drivers’ safety and yours, “Don’t crowd the plow.”  Residents are encouraged to go to snow.dc.gov for updates before, during and after snowstorms, and for tips to get one’s home and family prepared for inclement weather.  Residents also may sign up at alert.dc.gov to receive emergency alerts and notifications from Alert DC.

Trash/Recycling Collections:  DPW trash and recycling collections will be made Saturday, December 29.  “We did not collect trash and recycling on Christmas, so our collections schedule ‘slides’ to the next day and Friday’s collections will be made Saturday,” said Director Howland.  He added that next week normal collections will be made Monday, December 31, collections will not be made Tuesday, January 1 and collections through the rest of the week “slide” to the next day.

Monthly HHW/E-Cycling/Document Shredding On Sat., Jan. 5, At Ft. Totten Transfer Station

*Now certain batteries need to be adhesive taped to prevent fire during transport to recycling centers.

The Department of Public Works announced today its next monthly Household Hazardous Waste/E-Cycling/Personal Document Shredding drop-off is Saturday, January 5, between 8 am and 3 pm at the Ft. Totten Transfer Station.  To safely dispose of batteries with lithium or batteries of greater than 9 volts, put clear, masking or electrical tape on the batteries’ terminals or encase the batteries in tape.  These batteries should be placed in a container separate from other batteries that don’t require being taped.

“We are asking residents to tape lithium-based batteries as well as batteries of greater than 9 volts so they don’t cause a fire while being transported to a recycling center,” said DPW Director William O. Howland, Jr.  “Most commonly used batteries – A, AAA, C, D, 6-volt and 9-volt – don’t need to be taped unless their packaging identifies them as lithium-based.”  Lithium-based batteries are most commonly found in cell phones, digital cameras and laptops.  Also, hearing aids, watches and keyless remotes typically involve button cells, containing lithium.  Similarly, cordless power tools use battery packs that are greater than 9 volts and/or lithium-based.

District residents may bring toxic items, such as pesticides, batteries and cleaning fluids to Ft. Totten, along with computers, televisions and other unwanted electronic equipment.  Personal document shredding also is available that day and residents may bring up to five boxes of materials to be shredded.  No business or commercial material will be accepted.

To accommodate residents whose religious beliefs prohibit them from using the Saturday drop-off, DPW will accept household hazardous waste and e-cyclables only on the Thursday before the first Saturday of the month (January 3, from 1 pm to 5 pm).  While DPW normally offers personal document shredding during the Saturday event, items for shredding cannot be accepted on Thursdays because these documents cannot be protected until the shredding contractor arrives on Saturday.

For a list of all household hazardous waste and e-cyclables accepted by DPW, please click on the HHW link at www.dpw.dc.gov.

Directions to Ft. Totten:  Travel east on Irving Street, NW, turn left on Michigan Avenue, turn left on John F. McCormack Drive, NE and continue to the end of the street.

Hey boaters...

2nd Annual New Year Day paddle for TRR...

This is an 'informal' New Years Day downstream paddle from Great Falls
to Sycamore Island that many are familiar with from Cheat Training...
Last year, we traveled in a group and everyone also had a buddy to
stick with just in case - water is nice and chilly. We will be
collecting any gear you want to donate for Team River Runner - they
are always in need for tops, helmets, older skirts and older boats
that you want to donate (all tax deductible). This year, Joe Mornini
from TRR will be driving the TRR bus for shuttle which will take
paddlers from the Sycamore Island parking lot to Great Falls Maryland
parking lot. Please feel free to forward this to anyone who wants to
paddle - all are welcome and we will travel in a group but we don't
want any Jan 1st swimmers so good 'cold water' roll needed.

So come on out and get rid of that hang over on the river - and send
me a quick email for a seat on the big blue bus! I can also hook
anyone up with buddy if needed...

Date: Jan 1st
Time: Sycamore Island parking lot, bus leaves at 1ish
River time: 2 hours or so
Continue you're buzz with drinks at the Irish Inn after the paddle...

The Fun, Simple Road to Becoming a Powerful Internet Marketer.

Offer Valid Until: Midnight, January 11, 2013 while supplies last.

The Fun, Simple Road to Becoming a Powerful Internet Marketer.

Dear Subscriber,

Today I have some very exciting news for you. Through one of my internet connections, I have been introduced Bogdan Fiedur, the owner of Adlandpro. Bogdan runs one of the most successful online ad networks and he has been helping businesses make money for many, many years. Over the past 3 years, a community of business people has been growing steadily and it is now one of the top Business Communities on the web. With this letter comes your invitation to join as well as take advantage of an exclusive special offer that I worked out with Bogdan himself.

Only Ten Adlander Memberships Available

I care about the people like yourself who are on my list and I am extremely careful about what I send you because my reputation is at stake here. This means that I won't offer anything to you unless I was 100% certain it was an excellent value. The Adlander is Adlandpro Community's premium membership and it packs some serious bang for your buck. You'll get:
Notification that a personal message you sent on the community to another member was opened so you don't waste any time waiting for replies.

Detailed tracking of visits to your profile like clicks to profile tabs, ads, forums, and more. Knowing who's interested before hand shows professionalism and gives you the edge.

The tools to send Email directly to a friend's email inbox from the community to respond quickly to questions.

An announcement send to all Community members on a monthly basis which you can broadcast to everyone. Get your message out to all 42,000 community members at once each and every month.

The ability to display ads on the community to your down-line which will be your ads only. No other advertising will be displayed so you have no competition for your customers.

Priority Exposure - Your offers and Requests are refreshed to keep them at the top of the results each hour.

The ability to create private discussions available only to you and those you invite to discuss matters without interference.

A button to disable all forum messages sent by a specific friend without alerting that friend.

Search for members in several different ways so you can find markets you may not have accessed before.

Commissions and credits for people you refer to the Adlandpro Community.
Because we're both in marketing, you know as well as I do that sending a message to 42,000 people at once will cost you HUGE anywhere else and you don't even get anywhere near the amount of extras you get as an Adlander.
Here, you get an opportunity to network in a vibrant active community full of people, build a friend's list plus you have a chance to send a message out to all of them every month.  Here's the deal:

The Adlander seemed too good to be true so I wanted to make sure that you weren't being taken for a ride.  He said "Ok, well how about if I offer 10 of your subscribers 1 month of Adlander Service for a buck?"

"A buck?" I thought to myself, "This guy's nuts but ok, I'll take it" so the deal was done.  I have 10 Adlander Memberships I can offer to 10 of my subscribers.
I have hand-picked from my list only 10 of my subscribers who I feel would most benefit from this offer; you being one of them because you're in the internet marketing field. Through this letter you have the exclusive opportunity to get into the Adlandpro Community as well as become an Adlander for a low $1.00.

Obviously Bogdan doesn't want everyone knowing about the $1.00 so he's only allowed me 10 of these packages. When all available memberships are taken; this offer will no longer be available. Please take advantage of this offer immediately to avoid any disappointment.

Look below for the Private Promotional Link which you will use to activate the exclusive of $1.00 offer. *IMPORTANT* Because I have negotiated with the owner of Adlandpro himself and we managed to strike a deal for only a few of my subscribers -
DO NOT GIVE THIS OUT TO ANYONE!

-----------------
I Just wanted to pass on the announcement letter I am sending to some of my Adland friends. According to the sign-up form for the Adlander I was the first person to veiw the page and accept your tremendous offer.

Just wanted to let you know that we are now Adlander upgraded, and will continue to use the tools here at Adland to grow our network of friends and services. I waited nearly 20 minute to be the first to lock in the discounted membership, as it was truly one of the best advertising deals on the web.

We are nearing pre-launch of the new program, and as soon as all Adlander features are up and going we will be putting the system to the test, as this amazing set of webtools Bogdan has created can only aid our online business.

Thank you for your continued friendship and support

Andy Zeus Anderson

-----------------

Take Advantage of this Offer Now!

After spending hours of my own time researching these types of services on the Internet, I have found that similar companies and websites don't even come close to touching the services you get with the Adlander but they charge just as much if not more. You can become an Adlander for only $1.00 for the first month.

I would hate for you to miss out on this and I've only got permission to sell 10 of these $1.00 packages so if you click the link below, you can order one online right away.

It's fast and easy if you use your credit card with the link below:

http://www.adlandpro.com/partner.aspx?ref=213975&pg=adl

Here's to growing our online businesses,

P.S. Again, please do not distribute/divulge this code to anyone, it is a special deal for you.

[WardFive] 2012 Christmas Letter

December 25, 2012

Dear family and friends,

This morning I had my family was over for brunch. We had a great time. I am
tired but needed to write my letter.

2012 has been good. On March 19th I turn 70 years old. I made a
commitment to myself that 2012 was to be about me registering voters and
helping to get President Obama re-elected. I am proud of working with DC
Chapter of NAACP, Social Action Committee of The Federal City Chapter of
Delta Sigma Theta Deltas, Reid Temple AME North (my church), and DC,
Metropolitan and National Federation of Democratic Women and others to help
to get out the vote. I went to Virginia at least twice a week in September
and October to do phone banking and door to door canvassing. I also did two
weekends in Norfolk and the Hampton Roads area. I participated and
co-chaired fund raisers for the President. I worked so hard for President
Obama that I almost lose my ANC Commission seat.

IMG_3573

In July went to the NAACP National Convention in Houston, TX and visited
San Antonio with a friend and we walked the 5 mile River Front around 7am
one morning.

In August I help coordinate our 40th Family Reunion in Roanoke, VA.

In September attended the Democratic Convention in Charlotte, NC with four
friends.

In November elected ANC Commissioner 5B01 and appointed Asst Treasurer and
Membership Chair DC NAACP.

My activities include Parliamentarian for the Cameo Club (Ms Senior DC
Pageants), Treasurer for Black Professional in International Affairs
(BPIA), ANC Commissioner for 5A09, Treasurer of ANC 5A, President of US
Africa Sister Cities, Chair of DC-Dakar, President of Concern Citizens of
20th Street, Membership Chair of DC NAACP, Vice President of the Sartwell
Group of National Association of Parliamentarians, and Volunteer Chair for
The Study of African American History, (ASALH) Black History Annual
Luncheon (Carver G. Woodson).

I am still active with the Social Action Committee of Delta Sigma Theta,
Cardozo High School Classes of 59, 60 & 61 Annual Cook Out, the neighborhood
Block Party, Usher and Class Leader at Reid Temple AME and working on the
Delta Dears committee for our Centennial.

I am so pleased to say that my family is really doing well. My son-in law's
health is better and he has a job, my grandsons are working and my
granddaughter is still on the Honor Roll and Debate Team. A picture of my
great granddaughter:

We changed plans for 2013 from Cape Verde to touring Senegal in late fall.
If you are interested contact me so I can put you on the mailing list.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY KWANZAA AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

You are receiving this letter because I love you.

Love,
