[WardFive] Budget Town Hall + Letter Petition to End Pay-to-play politics

Hello Community Members,

On May 8th, DC For Democracy is hosting a Budget Town Hall with Council member Elissa Silverman, on May 8th from 630-8pm at Shaws Tavern. If you have any pressuring budget issues, now is the time to ask!

A Budget TownHall with At-Large Councilmember Elissa Silverman

It is time to reform the laws and institutions that allow such corrupt behavior to flourish and to go to the root of the pay-to-play politics that breed corruption.

Accordingly, at the April meet-up, our members decided on using a petition letter campaign calling on the Council to take action to:
Restrict financial income and investments of Councilmembers from entities that do business with the city
Abolish the use of constituent service funds and add additional revenue for emergency assistance funds for DC residents
Ban second jobs for all DC Councilmembers
Push the Mayor to appoint qualified members of the Board of Ethics and Government Accountability (BEGA) and reform it to give it additional oversight powers and resources

Additionally, we plan on hitting the ground and talking to our neighbors to ask them to support our campaign to end pay-to-play.

Wednesdays: Plastic Boats, Intermediate & Advanced
Thursdays: Advanced Slalom

Slalom Team

Canoe/Kayak Slalom is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a boat through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of the two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics. Calleva's Slalom Team is coached by Olympian Ashley Nee and supported by other competitors. Slalom is great for learning control and precision in whitewater-- and for going fast!

cheat_training_group Thanks for an Awesome Season!

Hi Cheat Trainers!

Thank you for participating in Cheat Training or Cheat Elite this year. We had a great time paddling with you and appreciate your trust in us!

Saturday was our last Cheat Training meeting. The only things left are the race this Friday, Cheat Fest- we will have a booth so come say hi!, and the Party at the Lutter's on Saturday the 11th.

I just sent a google form out asking for your feedback on the program and the instructors that you worked with. Please let me know if you did not receive it. Thanks for taking a couple of minutes to help us improve the program and our own teaching styles.

LAKS will have a big bus for shuttle and 2 trailers at the take out . We should be able to get all racers on the bus and all Cheat Trainers' boats up to the put in.

cheat_training_group this season

I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed paddling with everyone this season. The women in our group were especially impressive and inspiring. The instruction was the best. Bobby really challenged us in a very positive way.

The straps weren't mine and I think you and Scott should thank Chris for taking the Mercy mission of riding with Terry and sparing you 7 hrs of dueling engineers....although you did get a few minutes of cat stories instead!

What I will say is that reading any Nealy description of a river should be enough to make you terrified even if you've already run the river scores of times. I used to live in Asheville and run the French Broad the way we run the Potomac around here. One day, I read the write up Nealy had done for FB Section 9 and was shaking in my booties.

Note: I still use his guideline: If you can't spit while scouting, then you probably should walk it. (Zombie factor! LOL)
