***TRAFFIC ADVISORY***

2nd Street NW Closed between E Street and G Street Starting Monday, May 19, 2014 Full Closure Expected to Last 16 Months, Safe Pedestrian Access Sustained Throughout

(Washington D.C.) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced the full closure of 2nd Street NW, between E Street and G Street, starting on Monday, May 19, 2014. The related work-which involves upgrading and installing new underground utilities along 2nd Street NW-is expected to last for approximately 16 months, weather permitting.

In preparation for the utility relocation and roadway reconstruction, contractors will install temporary pedestrian walkways, ramps and safety barricades to create a safe pedestrian path before work begins. Traffic control signs will be placed to guide travelers along the corridor and direct traffic to alternative routes.  As the work progresses, residents and businesses will be notified of any changes or updates to the project activities and schedule.

There will be no parking allowed on 2nd Street NW, between E Street and G Street, during this phase of construction. During this project, the I-395 northbound exit ramp to 2nd Street NW will remain open. All work will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday.  If Sunday and night work are required, DDOT will issue traffic advisories to inform the public.

Motorists are advised to plan for additional travel time, as traffic delays are likely to occur, and/or use alternate routes to bypass the construction area. Motorists are advised to avoid 2nd Street by using New Jersey Avenue and other adjacent roads.

DDOT encourages all motorists and pedestrians to stay alert and follow all signs as they travel through this corridor.
