Hi Everyone,

We are excited to have you join us for Cheat Training for Spring 2016!  I have added our new members to the listserve.  If you are not part of Cheat this year, you are welcome to continue to get messages and join the conversation. Even better, there are 3 open spots. You can still join us.

At last, welcome! This year your instructors will be Tom McEwan, Steve-O, Pablo, Patrick Murray, assisted by Megan, Jim Wilson, Jen Sass, Kenny, Jacob, Sofi, and Izzy.  Todd will join us for attainments on Wednesday!

Cheat Training starts this Wednesday, 3/9.  Because this week is before daylight savings begins, we want to meet an hour earlier.  Please try to be at Anglers, ready to paddle between 4 and 5. We will have instructors heading up with students as you get there.  Every other Wednesday, you can arrive between 5 and 6 pm and paddle til dark or 8, which ever comes first.

Wednesday will be warm but the water is still cold.  Please do wear your winter gear, including drysuit or drytop and dry pants, booties, and pogies or gloves.  You should also bring your long boat!

The next four weekends are dedicated to downrivers on the Potomac. This will build your stamina and get you ready for paddling hard and then racing the 9 miles of the Cheat Canyon in April. This Saturday 3/12, please meet at 9 am at the Sycamore parking area, off of Clara Barton, at 9 am. Parking is tough, carpooling is recommended! We will set shuttle here and head up to Great Falls to put in and paddle down from Sandy Beach.

Saturdays 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, and 4/30 are trips to the Cheat.  These are all day, we meet at 7 am to carpool up to Albright, WV.  More info will be provided as we get closer.  We will not have an official attainment the first week of May, Friday May 6th at 5 pm is the Cheat Race!

We know for many of you you may not have done a lot of paddling this winter, may not be totally comfortable in your long boat, or in higher water levels. The important thing is to show up for the training sessions, ready to paddle hard, and open to trying something new every time. This program is designed to boost your comfort and conditioning in your boat... But it only works when you put the work in!

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Please note that when you hit reply you will respond to the whole group. We are so excited to paddle with you this spring.  See you
Wednesday!

Best,

Ashley McEwan
