cheat_training_group Update: Cheat Training Plan to Reopen

Hi there!

Hope you are well; happy that the weather is finally warming up and that more outside time is on the horizon. Montgomery County, MD has said that we are able to hold small, outdoor exercise classes. Yippee!

In light of this, we will be starting Cheat Training again, next week, not this week as we had originally hoped. This will give us some extra time to get staff in place and on the same page in terms of distancing, rescues, etc.

We ask that you please wear a face covering - a buff is preferable so you can pull it up and down just in case. Staff will do this, too. On the water, please try to maintain distance, not hold on to one another's boats, or crowd in the eddy.

Week by week, we will ask you to sign up for the time slot that you want to train in using this Google Doc:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oSj4jQ3FF9knLtX1j4Nqqrl84siJXex3767GIhDkQ4k/edit?usp=sharing
Use the tabs on the bottom to sign up for one weeknight and one weekend session.

Please only sign up for the first 8 spaces. The good news about this is smaller groups make for more instructor interaction and you will have more flexibility with all of the different schedule options. You will see staff names on the doc but they will need to be moved around so please sign up for the time slot rather than the instructor group. Note that Carderock is still currently closed. If it remains that way next week, we will move the location for that time slot.

Confusing? I know. Thanks for you patience and support during this time. We will keep you updated each week about workouts and what the prospect of river trips in the future will be.

Below is the email that I originally sent with the week 3 plan. Please let me know if you have any questions or need any help. Looking forward to seeing you next week!

Cheers! Ashley McEwan

Hi Cheat Trainers,

It has been so great to see you on the river from time to time. Here at the River School we miss you lots. The staff & I have been busy creating a safe plan to reopen Cheat Training. I know you have questions and I don't have very firm answers. But I want to be transparent about what is happening and am open to any dialog.

Here is what we are thinking: We need to wait until the Governor of MD opens up the state to Phase 1. We had been looking at next week- May 20th as a reopen date. It may be that we have to wait another week and will just have to be flexible about this. Then, we will stagger start times and meeting points for attainments and weekend workouts. Weekends might be Little Falls, GW, or something else that does not require a shuttle.

We will send out a sign up sheet for times and locations each week and limit each group to 10 people- 2 instructors, 8 students. We need to be vigilant about not crowding into an eddy or meeting up with another group. If you are at Wet Bottom (for example) and another group is coming up, please listen to the instructors about moving elsewhere. We cannot have two groups at any one spot. Please stay home if you are not feeling well, do not hold on to each other's boats, and keep 6 feet of distance between you and anyone else. It is also recommended that you bring supplies to wipe down your gear after use and before putting it in your car.

As now, the Cheat is closed to commercial groups. I am talking to the WV DNR this week and should have more info about how long that will last. Running the Cheat is up in the air at this point. Obviously, we cannot shuttle. But we can be creative and will work on this problem.
