Friends:

Thank you for interest in the National Mall's attempt to make the world's largest human National Park Service emblem – the Arrowhead! We're just a week away, and the excitement around the Mall is growing. As you can see, the umbrellas have arrived – 1,020 in all, four different colors, to help create the Arrowhead.

As we continue to prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime event, we've been in contact with the folks at Guinness World Records, and we fully expect that this event will be officially certified as a world record. So not only do you have the chance to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime National Park Service centennial event, but you'll walk away with bragging rights as a Guinness record holder to boot!

Of course, the only way that happens is if we have enough people to complete the Arrowhead. So we not only need you, but your family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors – pretty much anyone who loves the national parks and wants to help us celebrate the centennial!

As a quick reminder, here are the details – check-in staff will be on site starting at 8 a.m. on Thursday, August 25 on the west grounds of the Washington Monument (closest to the Lincoln Memorial); the first 1,020 people to arrive and check in will receive and umbrella and commemorative t-shirt. We ask everyone to arrive by 9, so we can start assembling the Arrowhead at 10 a.m. When everything is in place, we'll have photographers at the top of the Washington Monument and in a helicopter to capture the moment, which we'll share on social media, as well as directly with folks who provided their email address on the website.

The living Arrowhead is just one of a number of programs around the National Mall celebrating the National Park Service centennial that day, and throughout the week. We hope you'll also join the us in Constitution Gardens for Thursday night's NPS Birthday Bash - Celebrate 100 Years with Music, Comedy and Beers or Saturday's America's Front Yard Family Fun Festival. Details and the full schedule of events for programs around the National Mall is available online here

We look forward to seeing you next Thursday!
