This email serves as a friendly reminder that the meeting schedule for today, at 6:00 pm will still take place at the basketball courts at Taft. Shoot out to Councilman McDuffie for securing space at the school should it rain. Again, I want to emphasize, this meeting is for those of you that are interested in making a difference and coming armed with the necessary information to move our community forward.

Good Afternoon Friends and Family,

It is with great sadness, that I inform you that there was a shooting at the Exxon gas station, 1700 block of Monroe, Streets, NE, yesterday at approximately 7:42 pm. Four indivduals were shot, 3 injured and one fatality. In the past few years I have worked with MPD, Councilman McDuffie, and EOM to combat the shotings that have taken place in our community. There has been gun shots in the area, but never a fatality or injury. It is time for us to stand up and take back our community. We need to stand in unity to provide safety, show love for our fellow neighbor. This email is truly more personal, then me being your Commissioner, my heart is overwhelmed with grief, anger, and sympathy for the family of our fallen one.

It is time, how many people are going to stand with me to protect our neighbors, friends, and family? How many are going to continue to sit behind the computer, complain and never come out your door? WE NEED YOUR HELP, all of your help! We all have a part to play! Please let our Councilman know, let our Mayor know we need resources in our community. We need a Recreation/Community center with organized activities for the young and the elders so we can mold and shape our community into one that is protected MPD but, the neighbors. Where has that time gone where we were our Brother's Keeper, not selfishly condenming the other? Where has that time gone?

Please I'm asking and begging let's make a difference. How can you help? Let's meet at the basketball courts at Taft/Dwight Mosely on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 6:00 pm, please come with ideas, and solutions. We need:

Neighbors that care - That will assist;

Male Role Models - Speak with the young people, have an ear to listen;

Voluteer Services - Members of the community can volunteer with a program that will empower them to make change;

Employment Opportunities - Jobs that will enable our neighbors to work for a descent wage and be proud of their achievements.

Let Councilman McDuffie know, let our Mayor Bowser know we need resources in our community. We want them to bring back our recreation center or a new community center with organized activites such as dance, music, sports, tutoring, GED prep, etc.

Please, I would like to have a positive dialogue with the community on how we can move forward. We already know what's not working, let's garner change.
