Dear Theodora,

As a crucial court hearing approaches in the Congress Heights case, we want to further explain the breadth and depth of the nexus between developers and the District government that is behind these attempts at displacement and gentrification. Today we are releasing a new report that details the specific financial and business relationships between slumlord Sanford Capital, developer Geoff Griffis and Mayor Muriel Bowser.

The report also expands that circle to crucial law firms and financial players that are facilitating and directly benefiting from the deal. We also outline the structurally deficient regulatory agencies whose actions tilt the scales towards a wealthy development class.

We need your help to spread the word! Tenants are being trapped into escalating slum conditions, including serious mold infestation, by an array of legal delays and potentially illegal transactions. The development team behind the displacement proposal is using these conditions to try to force tenants to capitulate.

Now more than ever, we need to spread the word about exactly who is behind deals like these that reward slumlords to better inform and build community support to fightback. Tenants are not giving up or giving in, neither can we.

Share this report with as many of your friends and neighbors as you can, and on social media use the hashtag #SaveCongressHeights.

In Solidarity,

Justice First Team

p.s. Don't forget to join us in packing the courtroom on June 27.
