[WardFive] Re: [ward5] Re: Fwd: Brookland Middle School Meeting presentation link

Hey Bro.,

Let them get their "Leed" points somewhere else.  That would mean that they would have to construct the building from a more "green" perspective.  Not having parking is a cheep and trickery way to acquire "Leed" points.  It is just as much/maybe more limiting as it is being pushed as "green".  Not providing parking options when the opportunity presents itself is prejudicial against folks who want to drive -- especially our seniors.

People in Ward 5 who do not live within walking distance or want to ride bikes with or without their children or catch the metro train or bus to utilize the Rec. Center or come to performances/school functions should not confined to such because of parking difficulties.

Once again, putting parking underground allows for more Field Space above ground for the types of athletic programs that ALL Middle Schools deserve -- so if you are going to place a Middle School into a space that is not designed for a Middle School, then you subsidize the lack of LAND by undergrounding what could be undergrounded.

We NEED A FOOTBALL/SOCCER/TRACK/etc. space provided for our kids.  Kenyan -- I hope you and your folks are listening to what is needed for Middle School Children -- use some of that money that has "just showed up".  If you are going to build it, build it properly with the ability to make both facilities increasingly attractive.

Hell, since this is so close to the Brookland Metro -- maybe they can charge for folks to park and jump on the Metro.

KPW - Parking has yet to be finalized. There will definitely be some
form of parking, the details of how much have yet to be decided. As I
recall and there are probably others who can speak to this better than
I, but the ratio of parking to something else (maybe square footage I
think) can potentially reduce the number of LEED points that you can
get. DC requires school buildings to achieve at least LEED silver.
What this really means, is that if they don't get the points in parking,
they need to make up the points somewhere else. I hope this makes sense
- this is pretty far afield from my expertise. Nonetheless, there is a
large push from the commuunity and the SIT team regarding parking.

kids with a co-use gym and taken our actual Park Property under their
inventory.
