[WardFive] Morning Food for Thought - the name Redskins and similar words

Neighbors,

I know that there has been some back and forth about the racial undertones of the name Redskins and if it is or is not derogatory to Indians.  I'm not looking to open the discussion about the team one way or the other, but I did want to start out the morning by providing some food for thought.

The 46 state in our union is named Oklahoma.  The name Oklahoma was actually derived from the Choctaw language and means Red People.  The name was suggested by the Choctaw Chief who wanted a land full of natives which the state was originally considered.  The reason that the unofficial mascot of the state is the Sooner is because White Settlers bum rushed the state and took the best plots of land from the natives who inhabited the land.  They did this before it was legal and by default came to soon.  This is why they were called sooner.

At the same time the Choctaw name was given to the state and at that point the land was divided into the Indian Territory and non Indian Territory.  They merged them to get the state.
