At the Ward 5 Democrats September monthly meeting a motion was adopted approving a Resolution opposing any effort to recall Councilmember McDuffie.  Speaking in favor of the Resolution, members noted Councilmember McDuffie's strong record of service to the Ward, the progress and investments being made in the Ward – such as the new Woodridge Library and the new Edgewood Recreation Center facility being built – his commitment and promotion of affordable housing, and his steadfast commitment to ethics. "Councilmember McDuffie entered office during a time of turmoil, and his integrity and leadership have been vital to Ward 5's growth. We have a representative democracy, he is duly elected and has excelled in representing Ward 5 residents' interests, we wholeheartedly support him and there is absolutely no reason to recall him," stated Chairman Ronnie Edwards. "We urge every Ward 5 Democrat to stand in support of our democratically elected Councilmember and refuse to sign any petition calling for his recall; thereby sending a strong message that we – the Ward 5 Democratic family - support his dedicated commitment to the Council and his Ward 5 family."

Councilmember McDuffie was first elected to office in 2012 in a special election to fill the Ward 5 seat.  In 2014, Councilmember McDuffie won re-election with over 83% of the vote, the widest margin in any of the contested races.  Councilmember McDuffie, a lifelong democrat, has been a strong supporter of the Ward 5 Democrats since first becoming politically active over 20 years ago.
