[WardFive] Re: Digest for friends-of-mcmillan-park@googlegroups.com - 1 update in 1 topic

Good Afternoon,

I am always so amazed that the people in Brookland, Bloomingdale and the entire city who are interested in having a "GREEN CITY" won't protest the entire development and process here. Again, this is obviously an illegal approval of a development ..

Once again ... I don't have a financial gain in this ... How do we plan a city of the future without planning a mordern agricultural space to provide healthy local daily nourishment ... vegetables and a Park that will accommodate the current and growing influx of residents! Can't we get together to help our City Leadership understand that healthy fresh local FOOD choices is an IMPORTANT aspect of CITY PLANNING!

WE NEED A PARK AT THE CENTER OF OUR CITY FOR OUR RESIDENTS TO ENJOY! BECAUSE OF THE HISTORICAL ASPECT AND DESIGN OF A WATER FILTRATION SPACE, WHY NOT FOCUS ON PRESERVATION AND HEALTHY HEALING USE THAN ANOTHER CONCRETE STRUCTURE. MAYBE EVEN ANOTHER WATER SOURCE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY ... AT LEAST A VERTICAL GROWING FACILITY!

Again, everything which is currently being proposed / designed there can be facilitated on the opposite side of Washington Hospital Center at the Soldier's Home 77 acres of Development, the Horning Brother's site (Parking Lot on south side of Irving and Michigan (opposite the Shrine's Parking lot), including the small shopping center) and possibly even the Large already asphalt parking lot of Veteran's hospital.. for sure that could be developed to better serve them and the community.

And down the line, let's not forget the possible development of all that land belonging to Catholic University which currently has trees (sandwiched between Harewood, Irving and North Capitol).

So, it is ABSOLUTELY NOT NECESSARY to build on McMillan Park ... I just don't understand how our City Leadership loves to talk about a GREEN CITY when it comes to bike lanes, solar, recycle, PLASTIC BAG TAX (almost solely on residents who don't put plastic in the sewer), etc. and refuse to see the most appropriate GREEN space for Localized Vertical Farming, local shops and a place where residents can enjoy the Green Environment of a city .. which will add to a healthier lifestyle for us all!!

I am definitely not anti-development but can the residents have something other than concrete!! But like I always say,

WHY DOES ANY OF OUR LEADERS PROTEST PRESIDENT TRUMP AND OUT OF THE SAME MOUTH DO THE SAME TO US ...

WHY DOES IT TAKE NUMEROUS JUDGES AND COURT CASES FOR RESIDENTS TO GET WHAT SHOULD BE PUBLIC INFORMATION?

THIS SAME TRICKERY TACTIC IS EXACTLY THE SAME TACTICS WHICH OUR PRESIDENT IS UTILIZING TO AVOID BEING EXPOSED!! AT SOME POINT THE DOUBLE-STANDARD HAS TO STOP!! MAYBE WE ARE WAITING UNTIL THE FOOD TRUCKS CAN'T MAKE IT HERE BECAUSE OF WEATHER!

AS LONG AS WE ALLOW OUR CITY OFFICIALS TO CONTINUE IGNORING "CLIMATE CHANGE"  LOCALLY AND CONTINUES TO ABUSE OUR RESIDENTS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN LONG TERM PRESERVATION OF OUR GREEN SPACE, AIR QUALITY, DIET (OVERALL HEALTH), NONE OF US SHOULD EVEN OPEN OUR MOUTH TO PROTEST PRESIDENT TRUMP...

ATTENTION TO CLIMATE CHANGE, GREEN SPACE AND HEALTH STARTS WITH OUR LOCAL LEADERSHIP! I WANT TO BUY LETTUCE, TOMATOES AND OTHER VEGETABLES DIRECTLY OFF THE VERTICAL FARM ... THAT'S TRULY "FARM TO TABLE"!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS ... MY WISH IS FOR A HEALTHIER ENVIRONMENT FOR EVERYONE!

PS .. DANIEL ..  please forward this throughout the city!

*Good McMillan supporters:*

We had a great turnout at the hearing today >>

*Bottom line, today the Administrative Law Judge ruled:*
1. DCRA should turn over all public documents to us that the permit
issuance rests upon.
2. That this Friday, the OAH will determine if it has the jurisdiction to
Stay the Demolition Permit and set a briefing calendar including a phone-in
conference hearing on Tuesday, December 10, 2019.
3. DMPED says they begin demolition on January 6, 2019.

So yes, we now have a forum demanding DCRA be transparent with the
information they have withheld from us for months despite this being an
entirely public interest case. We want the air, water, soil erosion,
geotech, fire safety, pedestrian safety documents that are supposed to be
in place before anything begins at the site.

Moreover, we argued demolition is premature and illegal given the
designation of the site as an historic landmark and because the legal nexus
between construction and zoning codes has not been fulfilled, in that there
is at least one more zoning approval that needs to happen beyond the many
appeals we have in motion.

PLEASE CONTACT YOUR COUNCILMEMBERS AND ASK THEM TO STOP THE DEMOLITION!

REAL LIFE! Share this link and have them sign the petition which also sends
in a note. NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT!!*

*Finally, Keep January 6, 2019, on your calendar. DMPED says they will
begin demolition of the site then. We will be there to protest! PLEASE BE
READY!!*
