Dear Ward 5 Friends and Community:
After almost 40 years as the humble, servant leader pastor of Guildfield Missionary Baptist Church in Ward 5's Brookland community ("the Church with the green steps"), Pastor Elijah Sutton, Jr., will retire. His last day as pastor of Guildfield will be December 31, 2019. Pastor Sutton will continue as pastor emeritus. Ward 5 knows for decades, each day, Pastor Sutton rose early to arrive at the church to provide food to the hungry, open the church parking lot for the community to park free, drive riders to the metro, allow the Ward 5 community and city leaders to use the church for its community and political meetings, feed his pigeons, and of course, provide much needed Christ centered spiritual and financial support and generosity to all.
Pastor Sutton rarely used the word "no." Pastor Sutton is in his mid-80's now and will continue his pulpit messages throughout the remaining 2 Sundays in December. Please try to stop by during any of Guildfield's 2 Sunday service to worship and share well wishes with Pastor Sutton. Services are 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM. Pastor Sutton would LOVE to see you!
