Book Signing with Dr. Maya Soetoro-Ng, sister of

President Barack Obama

 

Washington, DC – The Ovarian Cancer Gynecologic Coalition/Rhonda's Club will be hosting a special event with Dr. Maya Soetoro-Ng, the younger sister of President Barack Obama, on Sunday,  August 2, 2015.  Dr. Soetoro-Ng will discuss their mother's battle with ovarian cancer and will be signing copies of her best-selling children's book, Ladder to the Moon.  Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

The event will take place at Busboys and Poets, located at 1025 5th Street NW (5th and K Streets, NW) in Washington, DC and will begin at 3 p.m.  There is no charge to attend, but guests are strongly encouraged to RSVP by

 

Dr. Maya Soetoro-Ng is an assistant professor at the University of Hawai'i College of Education, where she teaches Multicultural Education, Social Studies, and Peace Education.  She works as an educational activist with Our Public School, the nonprofit organization that she co-founded in an effort to connect public schools to their surrounding communities.  In addition, she trains future peace builders through the Ceeds of Peace education program.

 

The Ovarian and Gynecologic Cancer Coalition (OGCC)/Rhonda's Club was founded in 1997 by ovarian and other gynecologic cancer survivors.  In 2001, OGCC/Rhonda's Club was added to the name "Rhonda's Club" to honor one of the founders, the late Rhonda Oziel, who was a driving force behind the creation of this regional organization as well as the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance (OCNA).  The mission of OGCC/Rhonda's Club is to battle gynecologic cancers by raising public awareness of symptoms, educating survivors and medical professionals, and supporting research to improve quality of life, and find the cures.OGCC/RC is a Partner Member of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance.
