[WardFive] RE: Cmr. Carolyn Steptoe's ANC resignation: Effective Friday, August 22

Thank you!!!!!!!! Well, we just tried to do what was right and fair with and for the constituents and all our residents in ward 5 and the city. Stood with some very brave, unsung folks over the years on some serious, even contentious issues.

But, a song comes to mind (wanna hear it???? here it go...) by one of my all-time favorite groups, the spinners. I realize this has been my mantra throughout the years..(hit it!) "whenever you need me, i'll be there...whenever you want me, i'll be there...whenever you call me, i'll be there....i'll be around.....(everybody now sing the hook. "just call me on the phooo-ooone, i'll be there..i'll be around"). Love those spinners!

.."just call me on the phooooon-ooooone...." blessings all and thanks!

Very kind regards,

WHAT IS AN ANC?
The Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANCs) are locally elected bodies which shall advise the Council of the District of Columbia, the Mayor and each executive agency, the Government of the District of Columbia, all independent agencies, boards and commissions with respect to all proposed matters of District of Columbia governmental policy including but not limited to decisions regarding planning, streets, recreation, social service programs, education, health, safety, and sanitation which affect the Commission area. In each of these areas, the intent of the ANC legislation is to ensure input from an advisory board that is made up of the residents of the neighborhoods that are directly affected by government action. The ANCs are the body of government with the closest official ties to the citizens in a neighborhood. Commissioners serve without compensation. See PL 93-198 and DCL 1-21, as amended.

Subject: Cmr. Carolyn Steptoe's ANC resignation: Effective Friday, August 22

CMR. CAROLYN STEPTOE, YOU ARE LOVED AND WILL BE MISSED TERRIBLY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR STRENGTH AND SERVICE TO THE CONSTITUENTS OF 5B04.

On behalf of Commissioner Carolyn Steptoe:

Dear Community -

After much deliberation and prayer, I have confirmed that my last day as the elected ANC 5B04 SMD will be Friday, August 22.

I realized yesterday while helping various 5B04 constituents at the fire site that, given my many irons (finalizing my 5B04 Lawrence Street residence & transitioning to the Gold Coast residence, evening doctorate classes
resume on 8/25, job, etc.), that, as heroic as I am (ha!), I am unable to responsibly devote the full throttle of my vested self to my ANC duties on behalf of my constituents and colleagues.

With that, I know it is only fair that my competing priorities and time limitations afford my 5B04 constituents and ANC colleagues a few weeks'resignation notice. With the exception of one notable BZA matter in 5B04 w/which I am assisting, presently there are no holdover 5B04 matters necessitating full ANC 5B involvement.

However, should any 5B04 residents anticipate or have any immediate matters or concerns for which you require ANC assistance, please contact me prior to August 22. I can be reached on 202-321-3860 or via email.

After August 22, and until the 5B04 ANC seat is filled, 5B04 residents may contact any ANC 5B commissioner for assistance.

Cmr. Shirley Rivens Smith, Chair (5b01@anc.dc.gov)
Cmr. Ursula Higgins, Correspondence Sec'y (5b02@anc.dc.gov)
Cmr. Michael Morrison, Recording Sec'y (5b03@anc.dc.gov
Cmr. Jenese Jones, Parliamentarian (5b05@anc.dc.gov)

I will still be on Lawrence Street until my house is sold; (may just keep it; only God knows). More importantly, please know it has been my absolute pleasure living, working and serving with and on your behalf. Sixteen years a quite a long time.

Hugs and blessings to all. See you around our city and hometown!
