The DC State Board of Education's Committee on Parent Engagement invites you to attend a public roundtable: "Promoting Parent Involvement in Schools: A Discussion of a Parent Bill of Rights."

The Committee on Parent Engagement has drafted a bill of parent rights to serve as a framework for the future development of parent involvement standards. Parents should play an active role in the education of their children and the proposed Parent Bill of Rights specifies what information and opportunities could be provided by schools and local government agencies to enable meaningful parent participation and engagement.

The roundtable will provide a forum for parents, community members, education stakeholders and advocates to share their feedback on the Parent Bill of Rights and to engage in a discussion about ways parent involvement could be encouraged and facilitated. While the Parent Bill of Rights are only being offered as a recommendation for LEAs, your input will help the State Board better understand what schools are doing now to involve parents.

The public roundtable will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Watha T. Daniel/Shaw Neighborhood Public Library located at 1630 7th St NW in Washington, DC. Please RSVP here.
