Subject: DCPS Follow-up on Brookland MS Community Meeting

Dear Ward 5 and future Brookland Middle School Community,

We are excited to have your continued support for the selection of a school leader for Brookland Middle Schoolopening in Fall 2015! Your input to this process is important to selecting a great principal and ensuring our newest school is off to a great start. At the November 18th community meeting, many of you provided thoughts on what you would like to see in a school principal. This message is to share how you and other members of the Brookland community can recommend specific questions to which each candidate will respond for your review. This exercise may only take you 10-15 minutes but will ensure that your voice is a part of this critical decision. Attached are two documents to assist you in providing input:

1.      Sample community questions and initial community input: At the meeting, we distributed a list of sample questions that other DCPS communities found helpful in assessing principal candidates for their schools. This document includes those questions (page 1 and 2) as well as some initial thoughts that community participants at the November 18th meeting provided (page 3).

2.      Slide presentation: This presentation includes the content from the DCPS presentation at the November 18th community meeting.

Your input:

Each member of the community may provide input individually. Using the link below, please provide three-to-five questions that you would like each principal candidate to answer. You may recommend questions directly from the attachment mentioned above or draft completely new questions. If you have difficulty crafting a specific question, feel free to provide the theme that you would like each candidate to explore (for instance, "balancing arts programming with traditional subjects", etc.). The HR team at DCPS will consolidate your responses into a list of questions most representative of your collective input. Please provide input no later than 9am, Monday, December 1st.

Please note: if you experience any difficulty with the link, you may submit your questions by replying to this emailPlease provide your name and indicate whether you are a prospective parent, DCPS staff member, or a member of the Ward 5/Brookland community.

Approximate timeline of upcoming activities:

Dec 1     Questions from community members consolidated and finalized

Dec 14   Candidate responses finalized and consolidated by DCPS HR

Dec 16   Brookland community reviews candidate written responses and provides recommendation to Chancellor (this will take place at the Ward 5 Ed Council meeting from 6:30-8:30)

Finally, thank you for your time and commitment to this process. Should you have any questions about this process, please feel free to email the DCPS HR team at LeadDC@dc.gov.

Sincerely,

DCPS HR Team
