[WardFive] Important announcements and public engagement opportunities

FYI - please see below

Public Engagement Forums

The Mayor-Elect has made a commitment to deliver a government that works hard, that is inclusive and welcoming, and that is open and transparent. More importantly, she wants to make sure you have a voice on some of the biggest challenges facing the District. We look forward to hearing from you at these upcoming forums. We are Washington, DC – and we do big things. But, we will do so in a way that reflect the values of the District and takes into account the opinions and concerns of our residents and neighborhoods. Dec. 3rd The District of Columbia State Board of Education (State Board) will convene a working session at 4:30pm to be briefed on the Graduation Pathways Project, a partnership of many of the District's education agencies, a project that seeks to develop a "pathways" approach to graduation that is tailored to meet the needs of students who are off-track for graduation or academically at-risk. The Deputy Mayor for Education recently published a report on the Graduation Pathways Project. It is available at http://dme.dc.gov/node/905052.   The State Board will also receive a presentation from the Office of the State Superintendent of Education on a proposed set of career and technical education standards. These standards, identified as the Common Career Technical Core (CCTC), were developed as a part of a state-led initiative to establish a set of rigorous, high-quality standards for Career Technical Education. More information about these standards can be at http://www.careertech.org/CCTC  The State Board will also have an opportunity to ask questions about proposed rules to provide alternative pathways for students to obtain course credit towards high school graduation.441 4th Street NW, Room 1114.  While working sessions are open to the public, individuals and representatives of organizations are not permitted to speak or participate during the working session. However, individuals and representatives of organizations may submit written testimony for consideration by the State Board. Written testimony may be submitted by email at sboe@dc.gov.
