Dear Friend,

As you know, the DC Police Department continues to face serious issues maintaining the level of staffing required to effectively police our city and provide public safety services to residents and visitors.

To address this shortcoming, Councilmember Gray along with Councilmembers Kenyan McDuffie, Jack Evans, Anita Bonds, Trayon White and co-sponsor Councilwoman Mary Cheh introduced emergency legislation called "Force of 4,200 - Police Officer Recruitment and Retention Emergency Act of 2017."

This emergency legislation dedicates around $63 million dollars of non-tax revenue (traffic fines, etc) into a special fund for recruitment and retention programs. This program would include giving officers incentives to stay beyond retirement age and other creative ways to bolster staffing. None of these programs would use any tax money or create any long-term liabilities for the city.

TAKE ACTION: SPEAK OUT
We need the mayor and members of the council to know that residents of the city support this measure. Please take five minutes out of your day to call the mayor's office or your councilmember.
