cheat_training_group Cheat Training Week #2

Hi Everyone!

Wow! I am so impressed by everyone's paddling skills this weekend. Everyone had to peel out at S-turn due to river level and we had no swims. What a blast! I wonder if anyone was sore on Sunday?! Congrats on your hard work and especially those that hit combat rolls. The Cheat has bigger whitewater than anything we see on the Gorge so we need to challenge ourselves by peeling out at the top of Rocky, hitting waves and holes full on, looking for more challenging lines than we usually take.

Speaking of rolls...
For this week we are going to use the directional control skills that we worked on last Wednesday in a bit more challenging whitewater up at Maryland Chute. I also want everyone to practice a roll! Please dress accordingly. As it gets warmer we will do more rolling but, for this week, get ready to do one! Plan to arrive Wednesday March 11, between 5-6 pm. Check in with Steve-O in the lower lot and then head up to Maryland Chute with your group. We will do our warm up lesson, then go to Virginia Chute where everyone can try the slot move as well and the "main line attainment". There are two moves to try at center too- the elevator and the move all the way up attainer's right, ending in the same eddy as you are in with the elevator. Please try all of these moves before paddling up to Wet Bottom. This will be a much better workout than when the whole group is in the eddy at Wet Bottom.

Turn around time is 7:10. It is important to join the sprint and to start heading down stream at that time!

We have put Yough Training up on the registration calendar! This is a great, eight-week program that uses slalom and creek boatin practice sessions to work on the skills you will ned to take on the Upper Yough. More info here:

We also added 3 dates of Creeking Clinics on Sundays after the April Cheat Trips. Camp out in Bruceton Mills and hit a creek that is running on Sunday. Dates are April 5, 12 & 19.

Please let me know if you have any feedback, questions, or anything else. See you tomorrow at Anglers.

Cheers! Ashley McEwan
