This past Sunday, June 24 the Love in Action HIV/AIDS Ministry in partnership with Community Education Group (CEG) hosted an HIV Testing Event in honor of National HIV/Testing Day. CEG provided the mobile testing van that was present in the church's parking lot from 10 am until 2 pm.  Church members, visitors and community residents were encouraged to "Take the Test." Despite the heat, 27 people came out and got a confidential HIV test. Of the 27 participants, there were 17 women and 10 men ranging in ages from 18-84. The event was covered by Pulitzer Prize winning photo-journalist, Nikki Kahn and award winning journalist, Hamil Harris; both from the click here.

The Mayor's Interfaith Council, of which Rev. Graylan S. Hagler is a member, held a prayer breakfast at which the Mayor Vincent Gray attended, and The Rev. Dr. Barry Black, Chaplain to the U.S. Senate gave the message of the morning.  Read The Washington Informer story

Also, Plymouth Church's Love in Action HIV & AIDS Ministry is pleased to present "Hope and Healing: Conversations with Canon Gideon Byamugisha" on Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 1:15 pm to 3:30 pm at Plymouth Church.  In solidarity with the many individuals, activists, advocates, community groups, non-governmental and faith- based organizations, we welcome the 2012 International AIDS Conference to Washington DC.
Canon Gideon Byamugisha is an ordained priest in the Church of Uganda. In 1992, he became the first African religious leader to openly declare his HIV-positive status. He has since devoted his life to an AIDS ministry, which has taken him to over 40 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and many other parts of the world. Gideon is driven by a passion for the dignity and rights of all people; especially those marginalized, stigmatized and discriminated against because of their HIV-positive status.
This event will be an afternoon filled with live music, fruitful discussion, hope, healing and empowerment. We invite our church family, friends and members of our surrounding community to support this spiritually powerful event. We will offer on-site HIV testing and counseling. All counseling and test results are private and confidential. For more information contact Sharron Tendai at
Sharon.tendai@gmail.com  or call 202.681.0180.  See flyer below

VOLUNTEERS are needed to prepare and serve coffee after the 11 a.m. service.  Some of you have spoken to the Radical Hospitality Ministry about serving coffee after 11 a.m., we would love for that to happen.  Generally, we hold a coffee/fellowship hour in the lower hall each Sunday except when Communion is served or there is a bake sale.  Please contact Wilmatine Slaughter or Levern Allen if you want to provide some Radical Hospitality after the 11 a.m. service.

Bible Study Group Forming!   Please join Georgette Small in her home as she will be hosting a bible study on "Staying Full of God."  This study is based on the teachings of Andrew Wommack.  The study will be  held on Wednesdays from  6-7pm.  All interested participants should email: gigismall2002@yahoo.com with the subject heading "Full of God" or call 202.726.3228.  The goal of this study group is to encourage each other and provide a nurturing environment for brothers and sisters to grow in God's love.
