Kenyan should present a bill to stop any overhead wires being put along H Street.  Whether he gets support, the fact that if they were going to do this Trolley Car, they should have put the wires underground.  The Fact still remains that DC doesn't need this for economic development like they are selling and this is too much Money just for Show. Electric Buses are much more economic from a short and long term approach. We have lots of other priorities ahead of satisfying our new residents.  Really, they need to stand in line - that the way it is and should be.

Note the slot in between the tracks--that is for the underground power pickup. OP and the Mayor and COuncil finally overrode the Historic Preservation and visual objects in late 2010 by passing the  Transportation Infrastructure Amendment Act of 2010 (attached). Note the it is called "temporary"...we all know how those things work!

Short version: long-standing law from the 30s that prohibits overhead wires in the core areas of the district. OP thought they could steam roll it. DCs original trams used a French underground power pickup system which was very elegant. Like the rest of the project, though, the motto has been "ready, fire, aim"!

Jeff,

Good to hear from your. Hope all is well.  What was/is the issue about the
Power lines.  I understand that it couldn't be done because of code.  Can
you elaborate.
