> close election, and face-to-face contact is
by far the most effective way of persuading undecided voters and getting our
supporters out to vote. And while the entire state of Virginia is integral
to an Obama victory on November 6, volunteers are especially needed deeper
in the state.

DC for Obama is working with Organizing for America to send volunteers to
Richmond and Hampton Roads this weekend and next. All buses/vans will depart
from the DNC or Adams Morgan. Once in Virginia, we will go door-to-door
talking face-to-face with undecided voters and our supporters, including
many newly registered voters.

Transportation and lodging will be provided.

The President is doing everything he can to make sure the country is moving
forward. What are you doing in these final days? We win Virginia if the
campaign has the resources and the volunteers it needs to execute its plan.
And the plan is simple. We need to persuade as many undecided voters as we
can to vote for our guy, identify our supporters, make sure they get to the
polls, and ensure they're able to vote when they get there.

Here are 5 ways you can help right now:

1) Door-to-door canvassing in Virginia on the weekends
2) Make phone calls to supporters in D.C., with the goal of getting them to
canvass in Virginia
3) Take extended time off from work, and volunteer full-time between now and
election day
4) Take November 5 and/or 6 off from work, and sign up for get-out-the-vote
shifts
5) Sign up for voter protection efforts

... and the details

1) Door-to-door canvassing in Virginia on the weekends

Face to face interaction is the most effective means of gaining support for
our candidate. It is the most important thing you can do for this campaign.
There are many undecided voters out there that just need someone to talk to.
Canvassing is less about educating voters than it is listening to their
concerns. The primary question you need to ask undecided voters is, "What is
keeping you from fully embracing either candidate?" Then you sit back and
have a natural conversation without being argumentative. More often than
not, during the course of the conversation they'll convince themselves that
they should support Obama. This does not happen if you stay home, so come on
out and help. Will you canvass this weekend, and/or next weekend? No
experience is necessary. You don't even need to have a car. Supporters will
meet at the following locations, and those with cars will drive those
without cars.

2) Make phone calls to supporters in D.C., with the goal of getting them to
canvass in Virginia

D.C. is home to the most politically engaged electorate in the country.
There are thousands of Obama supporters living in D.C. willing to volunteer
for the campaign. All we have to do is ask them to come out and help. Making
calls to supporters is probably the least stressful campaign activity, and
it ranks second in importance behind canvassing. If you are unable to
canvass on the weekend, please consider making your way to one of the
campaign's call centers to recruit volunteers. If you are already canvassing
on the weekends, but want to do more, this may be for you. As someone who is
already canvassing for Obama, you have a valuable perspective. Sign up to
phone bank at one of the following Obama campaign call centers during the
hours listed:

3) Take extended time off from work, and volunteer full-time between now and
election day

The election will be won in the final weeks of the campaign, and the field
plan requires a strong team of volunteers fully dedicated to the election.
To support this effort, the campaign started the Vote Corps program. As a
Vote Corps member, you will help field staff and volunteer teams with
logistics, voter contact, and organizing. You will work with a team in
Virginia to ensure that our supporters turn out in large numbers to vote for
Barack Obama and other Democrats. If you're not currently working, or you're
able to take off from work for an extended period of time, you should sign
up for this program. You can

> join here. There's no need to wait for a
response from the campaign before putting in your time off request. You will
be utilized.

4) Take November 5 and/or 6 off from work, and sign up for get-out-the-vote
shifts

The final days of the campaign are the most critical. We need to make
contact with all of our supporters to see who has already voted, so that we
know who still needs to vote on election day. And then on election day, we
need to follow-up everyone all over again. This can't be done without a
massive number of volunteers. If you can't take off an extended amount of
time, hopefully you can take off November 5 and/or November 6.

volunteer on election day without failing to cast your ballot. You can even
vote early in Virginia if you're going to be away from your district.

need to wait for a response from the campaign before putting in your time

5) Sign up for voter protection efforts

None of us want a repeat of the elections of 2000 and 2004. If we are to
ensure that all voters have their voices heard, we will need a massive team
of trained volunteers to protect the rights of voters. And with the

even more important to have adequate legal protections available to voters.
