Re: [WardFive] Ribbon cutting for new Dunbar High today

I also attended.  My pray is that the Stratospheric level of the Spirit of Love, Appreciation and Respect that existed in the "Theater" on this opening day of this historical five (5) day Dedication will extend from the new Paul Laurence Dunbar HS to all the schools in the District of Columbia.  I recognize that this was the first African American High School in the US and its namesake was the first African American Poet to achieve national acclaim that also later extended internationally, more so deepens the significance of the existence of this school in Washington, DC for well over 180 years!

Dunbar HS has an incredible alumni association.  One alum attendee was 105 yrs young in spirit.  Others were in their 70s, 80s, and 90s.  A true testament of not living in the past, but one of treasuring the education received, used to overcome the adversity of segregation and discrimination through challenging periods of life to many successes in life, leaving a legacy for others to follow.

CM McDuffie was so moved by yesterday's experience, that he asked to receive an honorary diploma!  I was born and raised in James Weldon Johnson Projects in NYC.  Dunbar and Johnson were good friends.  Can I have one too? (smile).

I have attached the program for the week as a pdf file.  The original program print was in brown, so some of the print is faint.  As I tired to darken the font, I came across a tool that allows the document to be read aloud, and its works! Hope many can get by the school one of the remaining days of this week!  The magnificence of this beautiful edifice, whoand what it stands for will remain in your mind forever, for it was designed and built with much love for those who enter this institution of knowledge and learning for decades to come!

Yes it was a wonderful day, but it could have been a Better day if this info could have been provided last week; if info could have been provided to the Mayor's Command Center who had no info when I called Sunday night, and stated that the day staff had not circulated this info to them, and I noticed you didn't mention that there would be activities all week, with the attendance of celebrities and dignitaries.  Thankfully, an alum advised me, so after taking my mother to the doctor, who is a 94 year old graduate of Dunbar, who was so pleased but saddened that she hadn't arrived there earlier.  Perhaps you can email me the schedule for the rest of the week, and will there be transportation for the Seniors?

Thank you,

This is not only an awesome time for our city and Ward 5 but most of all for the students who deserve not only this building but the great quality of education that we hope will come along with it.
