Re: cheat_training_group Cheat Training. It's almost here!

Hi Ashley,

Can I be a safety boater again this year?  I finally got a dry suit.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi there, Cheat Elite & Cheat Originals.  It is almost that time... Cheat Training...  The most wonderful time of the year!!!

We are fusing the Original and the Elite program back together a bit.  While Elite will paddle Thursday nights and will have its own instructional team, we will all be together on the Saturday Potomac joyrides as well as the Cheat Canyon trips.

Instructors for this year
Cheat Elite- Andrew McEwan and Andrew Oneill
Original- Tom, Todd Henry, Kenny, John Munnell, Pat Murray, Cole, Rob Paderofsky, Graham Stroh

Attainments
Our first meeting is Wednesday, March 4th for Original, Thursday, March 5th for Elite-  5 pm at Anglers.  Please check in with me (Ashley) or Tom McEwan.  We do like to keep attendance for these workouts. As you arrive you will be directed to paddle upstream, working on strokes and fitness along with an instructor.  The river will be cold- be sure to dress in dry gear.  You must have a longer, faster boat than your creeker for these workouts.  Paddle Prattle is a great place to check for used long boats.  Let me know if you need any help.

The following week daylight savings begins!! We will meet weeknights through the end of April at 6 pm at Anglers and paddle until dark.  The last attainment is April 23 & 24th.  There will not be an attainment the week of the Cheat Race (Friday, May 1st)

If you will miss an attainment, it is possible to make it up with another group, including Cheat LITE.  Please work it out with me in advance. Check out the Attainers Blog for advice and what to expect.

Slow, Grinding Death
This is an extremely inaccurate name for the joy we share every Saturday in March when we paddle from Sandy Beach to Sycamore Island.

On Saturday 3/4 will meet at 9 am, at the Sycamore Island parking lot, off of the Clara Barton parkway.   Here we will load boats in the trailer, set shuttle, and head up to Great Falls, MD.  Cheat Original will divide into 3 groups (slow, medium, fast) and paddle downstream.  It is cold, the water is high, sometimes it is sleeting.  A great time will be had by all.

Cheat Canyon Trips
Every Saturday in April we will meet at 7 am at the Gaithersburg Park and Ride, negotiate carpools, and drive ourselves up to the Cheat river.  Directions, level predictions, and more info will follow. Cheat Elite, plan to do two runs- we will discuss shuttle as it gets closer.

Other stuff
There will be no Dickerson workout this weekend because of the cold.

However... This saturday 2/21 is the last Pool Rolling session before Cheat Training begins.  You should consider coming out to Open Rolling to make sure that you still have it....  or to try out your new boat.  Registration here

Thanks for reading all of this.  Can't wait for spring!!

Cheers,

Ashley McEwan
