DISTRICT SNOW TEAM TO FULLY DEPLOY MON., FEB. 16 FOR ACCUMULATING SNOW
Forecast is for 3-6 inches

(Washington, DC) Mayor Muriel Bowser will deploy the District Snow Team, starting at 3 pm Monday, February 16 and snow trucks will be on their routes by 5 pm. The storm system should reach the region Monday evening between 5 pm and 7 pm, bringing accumulating snow of 3-6 inches overnight Monday into Tuesday morning and ending after 9 am Tuesday. The heaviest snow is expected between 8 pm and 6 am Tuesday. The low temperature Monday night will be around 20F and the high Tuesday is 31F.

Whatever the mode of travel, people are asked to be cautious. Property owners are asked to put abrasives (pet-safe de-icer, rock salt or non-clumping kitty litter) on their sidewalks before the storm starts. This will make clearing snow easier. Snow should be cleared from sidewalks within 24 hour following the end of the storm.

Winter Weather Safety and Preparedness Tips: Motorists are asked to clear all snow from the vehicle first then drive cautiously. Assist elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing their sidewalks. Also, for plow drivers' safety, "Don't crowd the plow." Residents are encouraged to go to snow.dc.gov<http://snow.dc.gov/> for updates before, during and after winter storms, and for tips to get one's home and family prepared for inclement weather. Residents also may sign up at alertdc.dc.gov<http://alertdc.dc.gov/> to receive emergency alerts and notifications from Alert DC.

The deployment plan is developed and implemented based on predictions made by the weather services; however, predictions may change after the plan has been implemented. Under those circumstances, the District Snow Team will pivot to meet the new conditions.

The Department of Public Works would like to remind its trash and recycling collection customers that because of Presidents Day, Monday, February 16, Monday's collections in once-a-week collection neighborhoods will slide to Tuesday and Friday's collections will be made Saturday. Collections in twice-a-week neighborhoods also will slide. Monday's and Thursday's collections will be made Tuesday and Friday while Tuesday's and Friday's collections will be made Wednesday and Saturday. If conditions do not allow collections to be made on the schedule day, residents are asked to hold onto their items until the next collection day.
