Right now, Childcare costs on average $22,000 a year for parents in Washington, DC (source: http://fortune.com/2016/12/09/child-care-cost-us/) and alot of neighbors have told me that childcare costs have forced them to use other means like nanny-share or having their parents watch the kids.
Well it seems like now the Council is moving to get something done about it. Council member Robert White introduced the Bolstering Early Growth Investment Amendment Act of 2017. The Act would:
If you are interested in learning more about the bill, MomsRising.org is partnering with the Universal ChildCare Now D.C. Coalition to make sure D.C. families get the 411 on the legislation and create a space for families to discuss how the childcare system has impacted their lives.
So let's make it a playdate! Tell us what you think in person — and bring your children. We'll have food, juice boxes, kid-friendly space, and lots to talk about.
The play date held in our neighborhood will be on Sept 9, at the the Lamond riggs library from 10:30am-12pm

- Increase childcare subsidy payments for providers
- Establish a program that allows child development facilities to share services
- Establish an Infant and Toddler Educator Compensation Task Force
- Expand the duties of the Early Childhood Development Coordinating Council to review reimbursement rates, expand child development resources in low-income communities, and reassess existing facility regulations
- Establish an Office of Early Childhood Development to operate the facility licensing process for child development providers, and offer guidance surrounding regulations, financing, and training
- Provide tax incentives for property owners to dedicate space to child development facilities
- Establish a grant program to help providers enhance their facilities
