We could possibly drop our paddlers off and park the Vans/Cars near the takeout on the street if we're organized (above Clara Barton Prkwy.). This way we could keep the flow of the river, which Jenn has probably envisioned/suggested for a night float/paddle..

You aren't suppose to park after dusk and you CAN technically get cited for park usage after dark but I've never been bothered, even when caught. GW loop might be a more low key way to do it and I imagine the fireflies would be far better than the gorge as you are in the trees and close to the bank. Don't quote me, but for all intent and purpose, Violet's lock isn't patrolled.
If flat water is cool, you can legally park, camp, BBQ (no alcohol), and paddle at Swains lock half way between anglers and Violets.
Lastly, Roosevelt Island in DC would make for a great launch and paddle. Have dinner or drinks on the waterfront, then drive across and launch for a gorgeous paddle around the lit monuments.
