Subject: cheat_training_group Great Falls Race
Hi all!
LAKS will be holding the annual Great Falls Race on Saturday, July 14, 2012. This year, there is no larger Potomac Fest. This spectacular event is a great way to get the paddling community together, Falls runners or not. There will be a party Saturday evening following the race. The goals of this event are to celebrate the Potomac River, promote river safety and awareness, and expose new comers to the world of whitewater boating.
We need volunteers to help out! The race is generally 9 am to noon. Volunteers will need to be there around 8 am. Here are some of the positions and requirements:
1) Start (2 people) must be Strong Intermediate paddlers who have paddled to the Flake before.
2) Finish (2 people) again, Strong Intermediate paddlers who are good at math and using a walkie talkie
3) Results tent (2 people) will not be required to paddle
4) Safety (~10 people) must be expert paddlers who have taken a SWR course and can use a rope, pin kit. Most of these people will need to be capable of running the falls but are not entering the race.
5) Crowd Control (6 people) Helping the Park Service to keep observers off of the rocks. Must be assertive :)
6) Party at Calleva Farm Saturday Evening- help with set up and clean up.
