Dear Ward 5 Neighbors,

This is a repost of a letter announcing the rescheduling of the Fifth District Citizens’ Advisory Council Annual Dinner to honor members of the DC METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT.  The date for the Awards Dinner is Friday, February 28, 2014. Please join your 5DCAC in recognizing the achievements of those law enforcement officers who support us.

WASHINGTON, DC 20002

Dear Neighbors,

I write to inform you that this year’s Fifth District MPD CAC Awards Dinner has been postponed until Friday, February 28, 2014.  In light of the tragic events that took place last month at The Washington Navy Yard (WNY) and their aftermath, as well as the adverse impact of the very recent shutdown of the Federal Government upon ticket and advertisement sales, the Executive Committee of the 5D MPD CAC made the difficult decision to postpone our event until early next year.

Over the past several weeks, we have worked closely and cooperatively with officials at the WNY’s Catering and Conference Center to assess their readiness to host our affair and, if necessary, to come up with a new date for our awards activity.  As I am sure you can imagine WNY personnel are still solidly immersed in the healing process.  The subsequent Federal Government shutdown added an element of uncertainty and instability to the lives and financial situations of a number of our traditional supporters, leaving them unable or reluctant to make firm commitments of support for this year’s Awards Dinner.  Hence, the Executive Committee felt it best to postpone the event for a few months in order for life at the WNY to settle down and to allow more time for their personnel (and folks in the surrounding community) to continue to recover from these unsettling circumstances.  Further, by giving ourselves additional time to produce the affair, we believe that all of our members and supporters will have a maximum opportunity to participate and that we will be able to meet our traditional goal of providing this year’s awardees with the kind of experience that is worthy of their exemplary efforts to serve and protect our neighborhoods.

On behalf of the Fifth District MPD CAC, I thank you in advance for your patience with and understanding of the decision we made to postpone.  We apologize for any inconvenience that this change of plans may cause you.  We look forward to celebrating the successes of this year’s awardees with everyone on February 28, 2014.  Finally, any tickets already purchased will be valid for the Awards Dinner in February and if anyone who has purchased a ticket wants to receive a refund, we will gladly accommodate the request.

Sincerely,

Frances
