VINCENT ORANGE MAKES DIRECT CONTACT WITH 40,000 DC VOTERS
Orange Mailer Arriving In DC Households Tomorrow

(Washington, DC) Mayoral candidate Vincent Orange will make direct contact with 40,000 District voters through direct mail. The informative four- page mailer opens with a message from Vincent Orange stating "On Tuesday, April 1, 2014, please go to the polls and vote for a balanced, reasonable and fair approach to governing the affairs of our great City while 'leaving no one behind' and 'taking no one for granted'."

Orange's direct mail is timely and in harmony with the message delivered in President Barack Obama's State of the Union address last night. Vincent Orange has been a leader locally and nationally on the issue of income inequality. Recently, in Ward 8 in an address at the ARC, President Obama applauded Vincent Orange's Minimum Wage Amendment Act of 2013, which established a minimum wage of $11.50 per hour with annual increases for inflation thereafter. In 2006, Vincent Orange championed the establishment of the DC living wage at $11.75 per hour when DC funds are part of the project. He recently secured the increase in this living wage to $13.40 per hour.

Vincent Orange stated, "I am excited that the DC Fiscal Policy Institute has documented that my minimum wage bill will affect more than 64,000 people working in the District. Our minimum wage represents an improvement in the quality of life for many low wage working families."

The Orange mailer also highlights securing five days of sick leave pay at minimum wage rates for restaurant workers, resolving issues between food trucks and restaurants, championing education reforms and modernization of DC schools, fighting to make every neighborhood a great place to live and work, and creating budget surpluses for the District of Columbia.

The Orange mailer places a heavy emphasis on education. Orange notes that he championed the creation of McKinley Technology High School, which received President Obama's School Excellence Award for being 90% proficient in reading and mathematics. He is an early proponent of school governance reform and passed legislation mandating that our children receive books for their core subjects by the second week of school. Orange's Early Childhood Education Act of 2011 requires the Chancellor to ensure that all 3 and 4 year olds are prepared for kindergarten; and that students entering the 4th grade can read independently, and can add, subtract, multiply and divide.

The four-page mailer concludes by presenting Vincent Orange's personal story. The mailer states, "Given a chance by a good education, Vincent Orange worked hard to become an accomplished businessman, accountant, lawyer and city councilmember. Growing up in a single parent household with seven sisters and two brothers, Vincent took advantage of the opportunities provided by a strong public school education. He earned an A Better Chance "ABC" scholarship to attend a . . . prep school [and] . . . , later earned degrees in Business Administration and Communications from the University of the Pacific, a law degree from Howard University and a Master of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown University".

Vincent Orange and his wife, Gwendolyn, have been married for thirty years. They have three children and a daughter-in-law. The mailer ends with a photo of the Orange family.

Vincent Orange states, "I am so blessed to have a heavenly father who watches over my family and me."
